JOB OPPORTUNITY: HEAD FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ), a statutory body established in 1973, represents the legal profession in Zambia with a membership of over 5,000 legal practitioners. We are seeking a qualified Accountant to fill the position of head Finance and Administration at our Secretariat in Lusaka.

JOB PURPOSE

To manage all financial, human resources functions and provision of logistical and administration support services in order to enhance individual employee and association’s performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overseeing, coordinating, and administering financial records, processes and systems, accounting, bookkeeping, banking, records management, payroll and benefits insurance and financial administration, safeguarding of assets, prepare and monitor procurement procedures and contracts.
  • Management of HR and General Administration, coordination of the Finance and Administration team, general day to day supervision.
  • Coordinate timely development of work pans and implementation of the performance management system in order to monitor and evaluate performance, and administration of staff, performance review.
  • Development and monitoring of budgets, resource planning, development and implementation of standards and policies, monitoring and controlling payment disbursements and release of funds and payments, preparation of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensure that transactions and financial decisions adhere to Financial Standards and organizational policies.
  • Generate timely monthly, quarterly, yearly financial reports in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”).
  • Oversee audit activities and ensure compliance with government and donor regulations.
  • Develop and implement portfolio asset management strategies for optimum return of the Compensation Fund, members funds in the Lawyers Cooperative and other resources of the Association.
  • Develop and implement short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections.
  • Represent the company to financial partners, including donors, auditors, public officials, bank, etc, when need be.
  • Ensure maintenance and development of appropriate internal controls, financial systems, and financial procedures.
  • Event Planning and Hosting of Local and International Seminars and Conferences.
  • Creation, review and implementation of policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Preparation and interpretation of management accounts and reports
  • Submission of all statutory returns and payments to relevant authorities.
  • Assist in the management and day-to-day operations of the Lawyers Cooperative, supporting administrative, financial, and member-related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A full Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent, with English and mathematics. 
  • CIMA/ACCA/CA Zambia/Degree in Accounting.
  • Masters in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting field; (audit is an added advantage).
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a senior leadership role quivalent to a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or similar executive position
  • Member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.Knowledge and experience of computerised payroll and Pastel accounting software. 
  • Competency in Microsoft and other applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Zoom Conferencing.
  • Experience in portfolio asset management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good technical and analytical skills.
  • Good numerical skills.
  • Knowledge of management and other administrative procedures.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and extended hours.
