JOB DETAILS:
Contract Type: Full time (until December 2022 with the possibility to extend should funding be secured)
Package: Competitive salary that includes health benefits and use of a company car for work purposes.
Place of Assignment: Lusaka with frequent visits to various project sites in rural locations.
Start of Contract: September 2021.

Your tasks and responsibilities as Project Engineer
Contract/Site Management
Assist the Project Manager and support the Deputy Project Manager in scheduling and monitoring.
Support the Project Manager and Administration Manager and in hiring contractors and choosing suppliers for the project.
Travel to and supervise multiple sites to monitor the progress of the construction work and performance of contractors at various sites to make sure they meet technical specifications as contracted.
Assist the Project Manager and work with the Deputy Project Manager in preparing schedules, work progress, production and other reports to be submitted to stakeholders by providing necessary information on the progress of the project.
Ensure maintenance of healthy and safe work environment on site by enforcing procedures and standards and complying with legal regulations as well as educating site workers on safety procedures to be adopted at the site, while making sure that they adhere strictly to safety standards.
Meet operational standards by resolving problems, contributing information to strategic plans, and identifying improvements.
Develop and improve architectural and engineering designs and develop BOQs for new constructions and rehabilitation works.
Work closely with local stakeholders including Government Ministries, hospital staff and the community among others.
Where Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks are used, assist with carrying out necessary soil testing with support from site supervisors and ensure that the same meet the set standard and that proper ratio mixture for cement and soil is attained.
Programme Management
Support the Deputy Project Manager in supervising, coordinating and scheduling the activities under the SolidarMed blockmaking and building training programmes.
Identify any potential problems on site and work to prevent them.
Support the Deputy Project Manager to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment.
Ensure compliance with company or government regulations and agreements and maintain up-to-date mandated licenses.
Organization
Handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Actively participate as a Housing and Infrastructure project team member in working support the Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager construction supervision and training.
Actively participate in the organizational life of SolidarMed in Zambia.

Your profile
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Educated to degree level in an appropriate engineering discipline: including civil engineering, Building Science or related field
• At least 3 years’ experience supervising construction projects
• Reading comprehension of technical documents
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Exemplary analytic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent command on site
• Competent in all standard office tools.
• Knowledge of the Zambian context
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• Valid manual driver’s license
