As part of our organisational development, we are seeking a highly qualified and experienced HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER to lead our human resources department. This role is essential in ensuring best practices in HR management, supporting employee engagement, and aligning HR strategy with the hospital’s mission and growth.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE AND DURATION: FULL-TIME, 2-YEAR RENEWABLE CONTRACT DUTY LOCATION: IHZ FAIRVIEW HOSPITAL, LUSAKA
REPORTS TO: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER WORKING HOURS: 48 HOURS PER WEEK
Job Purpose
To oversee and manage all aspects of the human resources function, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation, compliance with labour laws, and HR strategy. The HR Manager will play a key role in fostering a supportive and high-performance workplace culture.
Main Duties and Accountabilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the hospital’s objectives.
- Develop, recommend and implement Human Resource policies, programmes, procedures and practices to attract, retain, motivate and develop employees.
- Monitor and improve organisational culture, employee engagement, and retention.
- Lead and manage recruitment, selection, onboarding, and orientation processes.
- Develop talent acquisition strategies to attract top healthcare professionals.
- Oversee succession planning and career development initiatives.
- Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the hospital.
- Manage employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Zambian labour laws, health regulations and HR standards.
- Maintain and update employee handbook and HR policies.
- Identify/assess training needs and, coordinate continuous professional development and certification activities.
- Organise leadership development and capacity-building programmes.
- Design and manage compensation, benefits, and rewards programmes.
- Oversee and manage a robust performance appraisal system and goal setting processes that drives high performance.
- Nurture a positive working environment.
- Analyse HR metrics such as turnover, engagement, absenteeism, staff productivity, and recommend improvements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a healthcare or large service- oriented organisation.
- Member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of HR software systems and labour legislation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters professionally. Proficiency in HRIS platforms and performance management system.
Main Duties and Accountabilities Develop and execute communication strategies and media outreach campaigns aligned with the hospital objectives. Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, interviews, and press briefings. Craft compelling narratives that promote hospital’s services, achievements, and innovations. Draft and distribute press releases, and feature stories. Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets. Monitor media coverage and prepare media reports. Oversee the hospital’s brand identity across all platforms. Coordinate with medical, and administrative teams to ensure brand coherence. Manage the hospital’s online presence, including website content, social media, and blogs. Develop digital engagement strategies that meet healthcare communication standards. Develop and maintain a comprehensive crisis communication plan. Lead communication efforts during crises with timely and accurate public messaging. Prepare and issue crisis response statements. Manage communications with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulators, and other partners. Coordinate the hospital’s participation in conferences, expos, and community health programs. Organise hospital-hosted events such as seminars, health forums, and CSR initiatives. Ensure timely and professional internal announcements. Monitor the effectiveness of PR strategies using KPIs such as media reach and engagement. Prepare monthly and quarterly PR performance reports for management. Perform other duties as assigned by the department head or supervisor.
