The Junior MHC will support volunteers to lead and facilitate the implementation of StrongMinds Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G) program in Zambia. The Junior Mental Health Coach (JMHC) is a dynamic individual, who provides support to the Volunteer Facilitators to mobilize, screen, recruit depressed clients into groups and provide treatment using the Interpersonal Group Therapy Technique.
He /She is expected to be vibrant, energized individual full of empathy and compassion for the community, being able to engage Volunteers in small groups to discuss issues that are affecting them and come up with solutions. The JMHC should be accessible to and approachable by volunteers and host communities. He/she should be able to work independently in the catchment area, allocating the necessary networks and partnerships to ensure successful cycles of group therapy sessions. They should strive to exhibit StrongMinds’ values and understand their role in safeguarding vulnerable communities.

3.0. RESPONSIBILITIES
Program implementation
- Support volunteer Facilitators to mobilize and recruit depressed clients for therapy.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with volunteer facilitators to provide guidance and support.
- Conduct cluster debrief meetings with Volunteer Facilitators for experience sharing and learning purposes.
- Conduct support supervision for Volunteer Facilitators (Listening to their groups and giving feedback accordingly).
- Assess quality of Volunteer Facilitators groups/sessions.)
- Co- facilitate during sessions with the Volunteer Facilitators.
- Conduct session roll outs with Volunteer Facilitators and follow up to ensure adherence and quality delivery of IPT.
- Work with Supervisor to identify, select and Train new Volunteer Facilitators to conduct therapy.
- Conduct FGDs/Feedback sessions with Volunteer Facilitators for improved programing.
Coaching and skill building
- Participate in training for volunteers.
- Participate in in-house training with the team and other training organized by the Program Lead and management.
- Support Supervisor to run capacity building training for Volunteer Facilitator Leaders to provide effective leadership coaching and care to their team members.
- Work with Volunteer Facilitators to develop self-care plans for improved health and performance.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to Volunteer Facilitators regarding their performance.
Data collection and reporting
- Reach out to Volunteer Facilitators for data collection, tracking and validation before submission to M&E Department.
- Enter Data where needed.
- Compile weekly schedules/reports, including cluster debrief reports, peer-to-peer reports, training reports and quality assessment reports, monthly reports and success stories.

Program monitoring and development
- Conduct weekly support supervisions/Home visits with Volunteer Facilitators
- Validate Volunteer Facilitator’s groups.
- Do spot checks with Volunteer Facilitators/clients to confirm attendance, content, and satisfaction.
- Monitor Volunteer Facilitators/leader activities assigned and provide support accordingly.
- Ensure Volunteer Facilitators keep client files and documents in a safe place for purposes of confidentiality
Management and Administration
- Timely Communicating to the Supervisor on the needs of the Volunteer Facilitators, e.g., books. Forms etc.
- Account for all items and documents for Volunteer Facilitator activities.
- Prepare payment lists for the Volunteer Facilitators and submit them to supervisor.
- Track attendance for all activities and submit to supervisor.
- Submit names of Volunteer Facilitators and phone numbers for airtime purchase
4.0. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Qualifications
- A minimum of a diploma in Guidance& Counseling/Psycho-Social counselling Community Psychology, Social Work, Social Administration, Development Studies; Nursing or any relevant health or social work qualification.
Job-related experience, Knowledge and Behaviors
- 2 years or more experience in a similar role offering group therapy to Vulnerable clients in compound settings and experience working with Volunteers.
- Attention to detail, Computer literate (Tech Savvy)
- Self-driven and able to work under minimum supervision.
- Brave Adventurous, Inquisitive, and willing to learn.
- Trustworthy and honesty.
- Problem solver.
- Leader with the boundaries of organizational rules, standards, and guidelines
- Open-minded and flexible.
- A good understanding of depression and how to treat it using talk and group therapy.
- Be highly attuned to counselling, self-help and participatory methodologies that will interest vulnerable host communities and facilitate them open and discuss sensitive topics related to depression.
- Proven experience of working in vulnerable communities

- Proven experience in community outreach and mobilization specifically for vulnerable groups like women, men and Adolescents.
- An understanding of group dynamics and how to manage these in group therapy settings.
- Able to provide constructive feedback to the supervisor with the aim of enriching the experience of the host communities/benefiting from the StrongMinds program.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to supervise and lead a dynamic team.
- Good command of the English Language and either Nyanja or bemba depending on your posting. Ability and willingness to undertake physical movements between and within communities mostly by public means.
