3. Position Overview

BORDA Zambia is seeking “Junior Social Facilitators – WASH Behaviour Change” to support effective implementation of the Social and behaviour change (SBC) component during the Pilot phase of the project WISE phase II in target schools. The pilot phase is implemented between January to December 2026. The job holder will be responsible for implementing behaviour change programs designed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes and practices of learners and school staff in key areas including safe water use, sanitation, handwashing with soap, and menstrual hygiene management while also playing a vital role in strengthening school-level systems capacity to promote local ownership and long-term sustainability of WASH initiatives.

4. Responsibilities

The Junior Social Facilitator will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Social Behaviour Change (SBC) activities in the targeted pilot schools in line with BORDA Zambia’s Scope of work and Project WISE II implementation plan.
  • Supporting facilitation of hygiene promotion and Menstrual Health Training of Trainers (ToT) of school WASH focal point teachers,
  • Supporting the roll-out of structured, school-based participatory hygiene promotion and menstrual health trainings, and WASH club sessions to ensure fidelity of delivery through regular school visits,
  • Supporting facilitation of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) programming, including training of janitors / caretakers and conducting quality assurance visits,
  • Supporting the establishment, mentoring and/or functionality of WASH in Schools (WinS) committees, including conducting onsite trainings, action planning, and basic WASH activity tracking,
  • Supporting coordination between schools, project team and partner Technical Working Groups (TWG) to ensure alignment of behaviour change activities with national standards and promotion of systems strengthening,
  • Conducting routine follow-up visits to schools to behaviour change activities, identify gaps, and support corrective actions in collaboration with the Senior Social Coordinator.
  • Collecting and compiling monitoring information related to behaviour change implementation, including attendance, participation, and observed practices, using project-approved M&E tools,
  • Supporting in the management of communication channels such as WhatsApp groups for schools and TWG partners to ensure smooth program implementation,
  • Contributing to documentation of implementation progress, lessons learned, challenges and good practices to inform project reporting and learning.
  • Supporting the organization and coordination of all events such as exhibitions, conferences etc. across all project activities.

5. Required qualifications, competences and experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, development studies or any other equivalent social science,

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional work experience in public relations and communications, journalism, marketing or related fields. Extensive experience and recognised expertise in knowledge management, coordination and engagement. Experience in NGOs/international development organisations with focus on school-based / community-based WASH, health promotion or behaviour change interventions is an added advantage,
  • Experience working in the WASH sector is an added advantage.
  • Experience with hygiene promotion models such as CHAST, CLTS, PHASt and/or alternative models such as CLTS,
  • Experience in training/ capacity building (development of training curricular incl. materials; training facilitation),
  • Familiarity with WASH in Schools guidelines and participatory facilitation approaches is desirable,
  • Experience working with communities and/or schools in Lusaka’s peri-urban areas.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with pupils, teachers, school leadership and community stakeholders.
  • Basic monitoring, documentation and report writing skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple school sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and basic reporting tools.
  • Team-oriented, proactive and willing to learn under supervision.
  • Sensitivity to gender, child protection and inclusive programming principles.
