Purpose of the Role

The MEL & Technology Assistant supports the Academics, Operations, and Curriculum teams by coordinating data collection and management processes, maintaining education technology assets, and providing administrative and technical support to ensure high-quality data, effective program delivery, and well-maintained equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)

  • Coordinate data collection activities for the Academics and Operations teams, including the creation, updating, deployment, and synchronizing of CommCare and Kobo surveys.
  • Manage data entry, synchronizing, exporting, and cleaning to ensure accuracy, completeness, and readiness for analysis.
  • Update, edit, and create data collection tools and exports in CommCare and Kobo as required.
  • Conduct routine data quality checks and follow up with field staff on any inconsistencies, gaps, or errors identified.
  • Compile and prepare reports from field data for programme implementation, monitoring, and operational use.
  • Support the MEL & Technology Officer with data analysis for both programme and operational datasets.
  • Coordinate with Operations and other relevant departments to support data collection processes and timelines.
  • Maintain organised and well-documented datasets and data files.

Technology and Equipment Management

  • Organise, tag, and maintain an up-to-date database of all organisational equipment and technology assets.
  • Support the deployment, setup, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of hardware and software systems, as guided by the supervisor.
  • Oversee the cleaning, updating, and maintenance of school tablets during term breaks and as required.
  • Issue, track, and monitor school and staff equipment, ensuring timely updates, maintenance, and return.
  • Clean, update, and troubleshoot staff equipment at least four times per year, documenting all actions taken.
  • Manage temporary device issuance and coordinate repairs, ensuring functionality and timely turnaround.
  • Support the Curriculum and Operations teams to coordinate and update tablet content.

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with organisational needs.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Experience with digital data collection tools (CommCare, Kobo or similar)
  • Basic data cleaning and analysis skills
  • Organisational and asset management skills
  • Ability to coordinate across teams and follow up independently.
  • Basic hardware and software troubleshooting skills

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Information Technology, Social Sciences, Education, or any related field.
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience, ideally in data collection, MEL, technology support, or programme implementation (entry‑level applicants encouraged).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff‑training abilities, with confidence supporting field teams and colleagues.
  • High-levels of energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive “can‑do” attitude towards problem‑solving and teamwork.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to turn data into clear, usable information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential (functions, data cleaning, basic analysis).
