Overall Purpose of the Job:
The Quality Assurance Officer will lead and coordinate the implementation of quality assurance systems, policies, and processes that support the delivery of high-quality academic and administrative services at the university college. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with national and international higher education standards and regulatory requirements, particularly those of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA), and relevant professional bodies.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively across all departments to promote a culture of continuous improvement, academic excellence, and institutional accountability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement institutional quality assurance frameworks, policies, and procedures in line with HEA guidelines.
- Monitor and evaluate academic programmes and administrative services to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Coordinate internal academic audits and support external audits and accreditation processes.
- Provide expert advice on curriculum development and review processes to align with national and international standards.
- Ensure systematic data collection, analysis, and reporting on institutional performance indicators.
- Lead the development and implementation of institutional self-assessment and quality improvement plans.
- Facilitate quality-related training and workshops for academic and non-academic staff.
- Maintain effective communication with regulatory bodies such as HEA, ZAQA, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in committees related to academic quality, accreditation, and curriculum development.
- Prepare and submit periodic reports on quality assurance matters to senior management and regulatory bodies.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- A Master’s degree from a recognized university in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Quality Assurance, Higher Education Management, or related discipline).
- At least three (3) years of quality assurance experience in a university or tertiary education institution.
- Demonstrated post-qualifying experience in teaching in higher education.
- Familiarity with the Zambian higher education regulatory environment and the HEA’s quality assurance frameworks.
Preferred Competencies and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of higher education quality assurance policies and accreditation standards.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and report-writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage academic and administrative stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver under pressure.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative in quality improvement processes.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
Terms of Appointment:
This is a full-time position.
The appointment will be on a three (3) year renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance.
A competitive remuneration package will be offered commensurate with qualifications and experience.
