The QC Superintendent provides senior-level oversight, leadership, and coordination of all quality control activities for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) works on the Lumwana Expansion Project. This role ensures full compliance with project specifications, SANS 10142-1, SANS 60079, ISO 9001, and client QA/QC requirements. As the principal field quality authority for E&I, the QC Superintendent drives inspection processes, ensures timely resolution of non-conformances, and supports flawless project delivery through strategic quality planning, coordination with construction leadership, and robust documentation control.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage quality control activities for all E&I works, ensuring integration with the overall project quality plan.
Approve and oversee inspections on cable routing, terminations, junction boxes, earthing, instrument installations, and hazardous area works.
Authorise and verify electrical and instrumentation testing activities, including insulation resistance (IR), continuity, loop checks, and functional verification.
Validate compliance of installations with IFC drawings, data sheets, and applicable standards (SANS/IEC/NEC).
Ensure all inspections are recorded in accordance with approved inspection forms, checklists, and traceability requirements.
Oversee the identification, documentation, and resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs), driving root cause analysis and corrective action close-out.
Review and approve QA/QC documentation, including ITPs, method statements, redlines, RFIs, logs, and transmittals.
Coordinate with construction teams to perform pre-inspections and mitigate punch-list items before client inspections.
Manage turnover and final handover documentation, including compilation of test packs and quality dossiers for commissioning and operations acceptance.
Participate in and lead internal quality audits, readiness reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Report quality status, risks, and recommendations directly to the QC Manager and project leadership.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification:

Grade 12 Certificate.
Trade Certification in Electrical or Instrumentation (Red Seal or equivalent).
QA/QC or inspection certification (ISO 9001 Awareness, SAIW, SAQI, or equivalent) required; advanced certification preferred.
COMPEX or Hazardous Area Certification (SANS 60079) highly advantageous.
Experience:

Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in QA/QC or inspection leadership roles for E&I works on construction, mining, or major infrastructure projects.
Strong track record of applying international quality standards (ISO 9001) and SANS requirements.
Demonstrated ability to lead inspections, manage documentation systems, and interface with client and regulatory bodies.

Skills & Competencies

Expert knowledge of E&I systems, installation best practices, and hazardous area compliance.
Strong ability to interpret and validate engineering drawings, ITPs, and technical specifications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document control systems (Aconex, Procore, or equivalent).
High attention to detail with a systematic approach to quality management.
Skilled communicator with the ability to lead cross-functional quality initiatives.
Decisive, proactive, and committed to achieving zero-defect project delivery.

Working Conditions

Site-based leadership role at a remote mining location.
Combination of field inspections and office-based quality management activities.
May involve extended hours, shift work, or rotation schedules.
Full compliance with site PPE and safety requirements mandatory.
