Sales Representative – Modern Trade

The main purpose of this position is achievement of goals in sales of L&A products and ensuring constant sales growth by implementing contracts and standards, providing visibility, and ensure optimum levels of service and quality to customers throughout a specified geographic territory.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop productive long-term relationships with Key Account modern trade customers
• Meet with senior-level buyers in order to build relationships and gain their support and commitment to the products within the L&A stable
• Collaborate with cross-functional team members (e.g. marketing, finance, operations) both within the customer organization and within L&A to improve relationships
• Achieve agreed volume, value, assortment, distribution, pricing, promotion, and merchandising targets (4 P’s of marketing mix) specific to the customers’ needs and in line with the Company’s turnover and profitability objectives
• Complete daily routing and time schedules with maximum efficiency
• Formation and agreement with the customer of orders to ensure effective product balances, preventing out of stock and overstock situations of L&A products arising in store
• Request the weekly stock on hand and rate of sale report for each chain store visited to ascertain slow-moving lines and liaise with the merchandiser on action plans to reduce expired stocks
• Provide information timeously to key persons on changes in prices, barcodes, pack size, national and local activities, promotional offers, new items, etc
• Monitor the timeliness and completeness of order execution within stores
• Develop in-store visibility plans with the aim of continuously improving share of shelf vs. competitors
• Ensure in-store product execution in line with our Principals product layout strategies
• Calculate and recommend sales volume increases for promotional calendar events. Recommend allocation amounts to buyers based on the increase in volume required to meet Company sales and profitability targets and thereafter, analyze and report to management on the effectiveness of the promotional campaign in terms of the percentage sales volume increase year on year
• Monitor competitors’ actions regarding prices, assortment, and placement of stocks within the store environment
• Supply management with competitive product and price analysis on a regular basis in order to help Company operational decision making
• Supply management with reports and recommendations on customer needs, problems, competitive activities, and potential for new products and services
• Expedite the resolution of customer problems and complaints to maximize customer satisfaction
• Organise the return or replacement of a product in accordance with the Company’s standard operating procedures
• Observe Company equipment (i.e. coolers, stands, etc) and recommend to management servicing, maintenance, and possible re-branding requirements
• On a weekly basis draft a report regarding the equipment according to the geographical area, with supporting photos of equipment and a breakdown of equipment status and requirements. In local stores, the photos must be self-taken, in outlying areas request the relevant merchandising company to supply information
• Work closely with the Company’s Marketing Officer to help co-ordinate and implement marketing plans
• Collect customer payments, advertising invoices, and others when necessary
• Revert to the weekly expiries report from our merchandising companies and take relevant actions to combat returns. (i.e. implement IBT’s, managers’ specials, etc)

Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Sales & Marketing Management required
• Grade 12 School Certificate
• English is required
• At least 3 years of sales experience in a similar role and level of accountability. If no degree at least 4 to 5 years of experience
• Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years’ driving experience
