The Role:
The PEAS School Coordinator plays a pivotal oversight role to ensure that MoE – PEAS schools are high quality, inclusive and sustainably run. The School Coordinator will oversee the operational efficiencies of all infrastructure, support the Headteacher to ensure an effectively managed school campus and be the principal contact for non-educational – administrative aspects of the school, to ensure the schools’ high performance in all areas. This role demands a dynamic individual who can build strong relationships and work closely with the Head Teacher, teaching staff, and PEAS to ensure the school’s success in line with the Government of the Republic of Zambia’s and PEAS’ standards and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Staff Management:
- On behalf of the school board, the School Coordinator will be responsible for enhancing the performance of staff, placement and surrendering of staff, including school management, by working closely with PEAS and DEBS.
- Provide technical support to the Instructional Leadership Team as needed, including supporting the PEAS-employed head of studies to ensure strong implementation of PEAS’ approach to teacher professional development (certified by the Teaching Council of Zambia). This may include engaging in lesson observations and professional development sessions to support teacher performance and training.
- Ensure that all staff align with the school’s mission and vision, as well as with PEAS Values by modelling PEAS values and principles in all interactions.
2. School Improvement and Policy Oversight:
- On behalf of the school board, the School Coordinator will approve and monitor the School Improvement Plan (SIP), as well as approve school policies, and proposals for new projects made by the Head Teacher. This will also include approving the school admission policy to ensure it is alignment to PEAS commitment to deliver inclusive secondary education.
- Work closely with the Head Teacher and provide technical support to drive the overall performance of the school, encompassing quality of education, operations (including construction), joint community engagement and effective implementation of projects and PEAS’ interventions.
- Work in close collaboration with the PEAS central office team and PEAS School Support Officer (SSO) to drive school quality improvements.
3. Child Protection:
- Overall responsibility for ensuring strong child protection systems is in place within the school and in line with GRZ and PEAS Child Protection Policies and Frameworks (covering Awareness, Prevention, Reporting and Response).
- Ensure Head Teacher compliance with GRZ and PEAS Child Protection Policies, strong case management, and provide technical support to the Child Protection Focal Person (CPFP).
4. Compliance and Collaboration:
- Ensure the Head Teacher and school’s adherence to GRZ expectations and requirements for the Grant Aided scheme, as well as PEAS’ standards and regulations.
- Maintain effective communication and consultation with the Head Teacher to effectively tackle and overcome challenges in school operations
- Liaise with PEAS central office to approve funds requested by GRZ HT to improve school performance, inclusion and sustainability
- On behalf of the board, oversee the management of PEAS funded projects through engagement with the Head Teacher and School Accountant and ensure compliance with PEAS guidelines
Qualifications:
- A minimum of Bachelor of Education, with any business-related qualification in leadership and management.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Team player
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of GRZ educational standards and policies.
