Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

  • Oversee and perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication and tire rotations.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior mechanics and maintenance staff.
  • Repair or replace major components such as brakes, engines, transmissions and steering systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections to detect potential faults early and prevent breakdowns.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all fleet vehicles consistently meet company, legal and safety standards.
  • Fit, test, and verify vehicle safety kits and essential equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date service, repair and inspection records.

Workshop & Operational Leadership

  • Maintain an organized, clean and safe workshop environment.
  • Oversee proper use and care of tools, equipment and spare parts.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency within the transport department.

Team Support & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Supervisor to plan, prioritize and allocate repair tasks.
  • Provide accurate updates on vehicle status, repair timelines and parts requirements.
  • Mentor junior mechanics and support team collaboration.

Required Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on minimizing vehicle downtime.
  • High levels of reliability, accountability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and deliver consistent high-quality results.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Craft Certificate or Diploma in Automotive Mechanics or any related field (required).
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience as a Mechanic Technician.
  • Advanced diagnostic and repair skills across multiple vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software, technical manuals, and workshop tools.
  • Membership with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) required.
