Through our healthcare centers, pharmacies, health plan, research, and other activities, AHF provides access to the latest HIV treatments for all who need them.

The AIDS healthcare Foundation (AHF) Zambia invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Senior Medical Officers (2) to be based at our Northern and Southern Regional Offices.

The Senior Medical Officers will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of HIV/AIDS care by providing clinical guidance, capacity building, and quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site training to healthcare workers on HIV treatment, including adult and paediatric ART, as well as the management of tuberculosis and other opportunistic infections.
  • Assist local clinicians in identifying and resolving challenges that affect patient access to ART, offering direct patient care support when necessary.
  • Facilitate continuous medical education sessions in line with national guidelines.
  • Conduct health worker capacity-building sessions using diverse methodologies.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for HIV clinical care in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage ART clients, working with the retention team to ensure client retention.
  • Collaborate with facility teams to develop and implement quality improvement plans, using data to inform decisions and enhance service delivery.
  • Submit regular reports on training activities, technical assistance provided, and recommendations for strengthening services.
  • Document findings from clinical consultations and mentoring visits, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Work closely with facility in-charges to ensure coordinated and effective HIV/AIDS care.
  • Participate in in-house clinical and quality improvement meetings, contributing to the development of strategies that improve patient care.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship abilities.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in the use of SmartCare.

Qualifications

  • Full Grade 12 certificate with five (5) O-Level passes.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in HIV care and treatment.
  • Certificate in Paediatric and Adult Advanced HIV Management.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV-related diseases.
  • Experience as a trainer of trainers in any HIV Management Cascade is an added advantage.
  • Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Must be registered with the Health Professionals Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and hold a valid, current annual practicing license.
