Undikumbukire Project (UP) Zambia Limited is a charitable human rights organization supporting vulnerable children in conflict with the law with free legal representation, social services and advocacy for justice system transformation.
Position Summary
The Social Media Intern supports UP Zambia’s external communication and visibility by creating, publishing, and monitoring digital content across social media and web platforms. The role focuses on day-to-day content design, caption writing, basic video editing, and analytics tracking to strengthen the organization’s online presence and engagement with key audiences. The position works closely with the Legal and Social Support departments to ensure timely, accurate, and compelling storytelling aligned with UP Zambia’s brand and values.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation and Publishing
- Design and post social media content (graphics, posters, announcements, promotional materials) in line with UP Zambia’s visual identity.
- Draft clear, compelling captions, short-form content, and other communication materials as needed.
- Develop simple digital assets (presentations, infographics, visual layouts) to support campaigns and reports.
- Edit and produce short video clips for online platforms using basic video editing tools.
Social Media Management and Engagement
- Monitor social media platforms daily to flag and report audience engagement, messages, or emerging issues.
- Respond to communications received through UP Zambia social media accounts in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitor and report on social media statistics (reach, engagement, followers, etc.) to Management at agreed intervals.
- Work closely with the communication team to brainstorm and execute new ideas and digital campaigns.
Digital Assets, Events, and Website Support
- Support event-based social media coverage through live posting or content capture (photos, short clips).
- Ensure accurate crediting, safe storage, and proper filing of multimedia content, including photography sources and usage rights.
- Safekeep all UP Zambia communications equipment in your custody and report any issues promptly.
- Support website updates and basic webpage content editing.
Other Duties
- Manage tasks responsibly, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work.
- Stay proactive and committed to supporting the organization’s communication growth and branding efforts, including learning new tools and trends as needed.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the line manager within the scope of the role
Attributes & Competencies
- Basic to intermediate graphic design skills using tools such as Canva, MS Publisher, or similar applications.
- Good writing skills with strong attention to clarity, spelling, and accuracy.
- Basic video editing skills and familiarity with simple editing software or mobile apps.
- Practical understanding of major social media platforms, content trends, and audience engagement.
- Ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, including openness to feedback and collaboration with different departments.
- Prior experience (including volunteer or internship) in digital communications, social media support, or content creation, preferably in the non-profit sector, is an added advantage.
- Comfortable using content publishing tools and basic website or blog editors.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Marketing or a related field.
- Additional short courses or certifications in digital marketing, social media management, or graphic design are an added advantage.
