About the Project

With support from US department of state through University of Georgia (UGA) Center on Human Trafficking Research and Outreach (CenHTRO), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Zambia together with Caritas Partners (Livingstone and Chipata) is implementing a financial capability intervention for youth and young adults (YYA) who have experienced or are at risk of labor trafficking, in Lusaka, Chipata, Sesheke and Livingstone districts. The intervention will support youth and young adults in the focal districts to reduce labor trafficking by increasing the number of at-risk YYA and survivors who demonstrate financial capability as well as increase the number of equitable financial programs, services or policies adopted by stakeholders.

Job Summary:

The Survivor Navigator (SN) will be directly related to implementing the Standard of Care (SOC) and the FCAB intervention, encouraging participants in all arms of the design to remain enrolled for the duration of the study. The Survivor Navigator will encourage target groups to participate in the various phases of the project, including implementing the intervention and attending workshops and community meetings. They will also identify and map specific communities prone to labor trafficking. The SNs[1] will serve as the single point of contact (SPOC)[2] for the SOC, receiving requests for support and connecting the participants to referral sources. The SN’s embeddedness within their specific communities is key to the SOC-RN's success. The goal is to create a trusting bond between survivors and SN to increase their social support. This provides a simplified and streamlined process for survivors to seek help in line with a trauma-informed care approach.

Recruitment Criteria

  1. Willingness to participate in user-centered design workshops to tailor interventions to the specific needs and vulnerabilities of participants.
  2. An ability to identify and collaborate with formal and informal community resources alongside other SNs, Survivor Action Group (SAG) members, and Caritas partners.
  3. Skills in identifying capacity-building needs for service providers, communities, and survivors.
  4. Ability to conduct weekly and monthly check-ins with participants to assess well-being and encourage resource utilization.
  5. Experience in facilitating workshops (financial capability and assert building topics tailored for trafficking survivors and at-risk youth an added advantage).
  6. Ability to assist participants in setting realistic financial goals, developing action plans, and creating personal budgets.
  7. Experience in organizing and overseeing digital/traditional savings groups, educating members on best practices, and monitoring group progress.
  8. Ability to maintain a database of local job and entrepreneurship opportunities and guide participants based on their individual needs.
  9. Training and/or experience working with technology, including mobile phones, smartphones, and computer programs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a grade 12 certificate with strong English writing skill.
  • Tertiary education is an added advantage.
  • Psychosocial counselling or social work experience is an added advantage

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Well-regarded by community members and demonstrates the ability to build trust and rapport
  • Experience working with web-based data collection platforms (e.g. ODK, CommCare)

Required Languages –

  • English, and knowledge of local languages in district of operation is an added advantage.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Internal: FCAB Project team, and other survivor navigators
  • External: Implementing partner staff and consultants, relevant government actors, other key stakeholders that provide services to Survivors.
