Roles & Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
Ø Promote Occupational Health and Safety within the Organization.
Ø Ensure that the Organization is aware of, and complies with, all Legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment, and substances, as well as in all workplace activities.
Ø Participate in Safety & Environmental Audits and manage site safety management systems.
Ø Ensure that all Non-conformances are closed quickly and effectively.
Ø Ensure that work areas are Inspected (routine and planned), develop Action Tracker and update the Section Heads.
Ø Attend to safety issues from Safety representatives.
Ø Ensure that all new employees and contractors are inducted, and records are retained.
Ø Develop Training matrix and training needs and come up with training schedules.
Ø Cascade Learning and Best Practices from Incidents, drive consistency and standardize Safety & Environmental practices according to Hitachi’s Safety standards.
Ø Ensure that Safety related communications are circulated regularly and filed accordingly.
Ø Make weekly & monthly reports on Safety & Environmental indicators.
Risk Assessment
Ø Maintain and update the hazards identification and risk assessments records.
Ø Ensure that the controls in place are coherent, necessary and sufficient.
Operational Control, Certification & Training
Ø Promote JHA for non-routine activities and ensure they are understood and applied.
Ø Ensure SOPs are done for routine activities with the assistance from the technical team.
Ø Participate in the periodical SOPs review.
Ø Train and sensitize all personnel on various SOPs.
Incidents, Accidents, Non-conformity
Ø Report incidents / accidents and non-compliance
Ø Participate in investigations following accidents, incidents and propose corrective and preventive actions.
Qualifications & Experience
Ø Full Grade 12 Certificate.
Ø Minimum of Diploma in a Safety related field. Advanced Diploma or Degree will be an added advantage.
Ø Minimum experience of 3 years in Mining/Factory/Industrial environment.
Ø Valid driver’s license.
Ø Working knowledge of safety systems, preferably ISO 45001:2018 & ISO 14001:2015
Ø Competent in Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM).
Ø Member of the relevant professional body.

Ø Computer literacy (MS Office)
