Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed individual for the position of Training Specialist – Mechanical Fitting to join the versatile Lumwana Learning & Development department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to Coordinator – Apprenticeship and Graduates, the Training Specialist - Mechanical Fitting will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating training that develops apprentices into competent fitters and safely maintain, assemble, repair, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment to required standards. The role also involves working with supervisors, planners, Health, Safety and Environment, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to continuously improve workmanship, reduce rework, and improve equipment reliability.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan, supervise, and deliver structured apprenticeship training (theory + practical + On the Job Training (OJTs) rotations) aligned to trade requirements and company standards.
- Create competency matrices/task books, assess apprentices, and sign off competence progression with clear evidence.
- Facilitate equipment systems training (diesel, hydraulics, electrics, diagnostics, Planned Maintenance (PMs) services) and coach correct procedures on the job.
- Embed Health Safety and Environmental requirements (e.g., Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), lifting, risk controls) into all training; run refreshers and close gaps identified by incidents/audits.
- Drive consistent workmanship by training correct methods, tolerances, inspections, and QA checks to reduce rework and failures.
- Develop and update lesson plans, SOP-based job aids, and assessments using Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) guidance, engineering changes, and failure trends.
- Maintain accurate training records, certifications, attendance, results, and produce progress/performance reports for stakeholders.
- Liaise with superiors, workshop/field leadership and OEMs to schedule training, secure resources, and standardize best practices.
- Review equipment failure trends, audit findings, and feedback to update training content and improve maintenance reliability outcomes.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate
- Minimum Craft Certificate in Mechanical Fitting from a recognized learning institution.
- Minimum Certificate in Teaching Methodology from a recognized learning institution.
- Valid registration with Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in related roles.
- TEVETA accreditation will be an added advantage.
