Background
Little Bird is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Barman/Barista to join our hospitality team. The ideal candidate has a passion for crafting excellent beverages—from perfectly pulled espresso to expertly mixed cocktails—and delivering exceptional customer service. You will be an integral part of the front-of-house team, ensuring every guest receives a high-quality drink and a positive experience.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and serve a full range of coffee beverages (lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, pour-overs, etc.) using professional espresso machinery and techniques.
Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including cocktails, beer, and wine, following established recipes and local regulations.
Maintain consistency in drink preparation and presentation, ensuring high-quality standards for every order.
Customer Service & Engagement:
Interact with customers in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
Take orders accurately, explain menu items, and offer personalized recommendations.
Handle cash and credit transactions using the POS system accurately and efficiently.
Bar/Cafe Maintenance & Sanitation:
Keep the bar area, coffee station, and all equipment clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times.
Ensure all hygiene, health, and safety standards are maintained, including the cleanliness of glassware, utensils, and surfaces.
Monitor inventory levels of spirits, syrups, coffee beans, milk, and other supplies, reporting low stock to management.
Equipment Upkeep:
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of bar equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and refrigeration units.
Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with other FOH and BOH staff to ensure a smooth flow of service and a great overall guest experience.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience:
Prior experience as a barista or barman (or both) in a cafe, restaurant, or bar setting.
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, brew methods, and latte art is a plus.
Solid understanding of standard cocktail recipes, mixology techniques, and alcoholic beverage handling regulations.
Customer Focus:
A positive attitude, a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service, and an outgoing personality.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistency.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure.
Basic math skills and proficiency with POS systems.
Certifications:
Relevant bartending license or certification (if required by local law).
Food Handler certification (often required).
Availability:
Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
