JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
Responsible for assisting MICCL in legal matters, including contract review, research, compliance, Board secretarial and regulatory guidance. Thereby supporting legal initiatives and risk management efforts.

Key Responsibilities
• Leads and maintains a legal function which is focused, commercial and fit for purpose for the needs of MICCL.
• Takes ownership of legal compliance across the enterprise.
• Provides in-house counsel directly to the Board and Management on key legal issues that may affect the business.
• Develops, implements and monitors a legal affairs management strategy for MICCL.
• Partners with key business units on commercial negotiations for business-to-business deals.
• Ensures appropriate service levels are maintained for key internal clients and manage
• External Counsel Relationships effectively.
• Provides effective support and guidance and day to day line management including professional supervision as required.
• Identifies, analyses, interprets and advises Management and the Board on changes in the legal environment relevant to the MICCL to ensure high levels of legal compliance in the operations of the Institution.
• Participates, oversees, and coordinates the negotiation of standards of drafting, vetting, review, execution and implementation of different types of contracts involving the MICCL to ensure enforceability of contracts and responsiveness to the Company’s needs.
• Coordinates the delivery of service by external lawyers, and monitor the performance of the lawyers to ensure service delivery to MICCL meets the set legal objectives.
• Provides an effective service to the Board as Company Secretary by:
a. Keeping them fully informed of their responsibilities.
b. Advising the Board through the Chair, General Manager and directly.
c. Maintaining and managing centrally all information and documentation required for the Company Secretarial function as prescribed by law including but not limited to minutes, reports and related statutory books.
d. Acting as signatory for required legal documents
• Provides clear direction to the activities and performance of the team members, with regular feedback and support and ensure adherence to the highest standards of the legal and professional ethics.
• Undertakes any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications
• Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) Credits or better including English and Mathematics
• Law Degree
• Advocate of the High Court
• Clear understanding of Financial related laws Member of the Law Association of Zambia

Experience
Five (5) year’s experience in legal environment at senior Management level in an organisation of similar size
