We are looking for a School Social Worker to support learners’ emotional, social and academic wellbeing by providing counselling, developing intervention strategies, and collaborating with families and teachers. A School social worker will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between home, school and the community.  He/she will help pupils to navigate challenges that may affect academic performance and emotional wellbeing, contributing to supportive and inclusive school environment. By addressing barriers to learning and promoting mental health, a school social worker will help to enhance the overall educational experience for learners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counselling:

  • To Provide individual and group counselling to pupils and staff to address social, emotional and behavioural issues.

Intervention Strategies:

  • Develop and implement intervention strategies tailored to pupils’ and worker’s needs, promoting positive behaviour and academic success.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with teachers, management, and parents to create comprehensive  support plans for students.

Assessment:

  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ needs and recommend appropriate  services or interventions.
  • Conduct mental health awareness and conflict resolution programs.

Crisis Intervention:

  • Offer immediate support during crises, addressing urgent mental health or safety  concerns.
  • Address issues related to bullying, substance abuse, and other challenges affecting learners well-being.
  • Promote attendance and engagement through targeted interventions.

Advocacy:

  • Advocate for learners’ rights and needs within the school system, ensuring they  receive necessary support and resources.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, progress, and  interventions

School Social Worker Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree/diploma in Social Work, Psychology or a related field is typically required.
  • Previous experience working in an educational setting or with youth is preferred.
  • Knowledge of school policies, procedures, or previous experience in a school or youth-focused setting.
  • Familiarity with common social, emotional, and behavioural challenges faced by pupils.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development is also important.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in practice
