Background
Okavango Foods Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Assistant Accountant. The role will support the Finance Department to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and full compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit statutory returns accurately and on time (e.g., VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax and other relevant compliance returns).
- Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
- Perform routine reconciliations (bank, supplier, customer, and key control accounts).
- Support internal and external audits by preparing audit files, schedules, and responding to audit queries.
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes, invoicing, and payment support where required.
- Maintain proper filing, documentation, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Provide general accounting and administrative support to the Finance team.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- ZICA qualification (level will be considered together with relevant experience).
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience.
- Must be able to independently prepare and submit statutory returns.
- Experience working in an audit firm will be an added advantage.
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of Zambian statutory compliance and reporting deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and integrity.
- Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with accounting/ERP systems is an added advantage.
