Job Summary
The Auto Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of company vehicles to ensure operational readiness and safety. This includes diagnosing mechanical problems, conducting preventive maintenance, performing emergency repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety and legal standards. Given the critical nature of security operations, vehicle reliability is paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine service and preventive maintenance on patrol vehicles, armored transport vehicles, response units, and other fleet assets.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine issues using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, including brakes, suspension systems, engines, transmissions, and security-related modifications (e.g., reinforced doors, surveillance systems).
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs or coordinate towing services when necessary.
  • Conduct regular inspections in accordance with safety standards, manufacturer recommendations, and company SOPs.
  • Maintain compliance with government vehicle regulations, emission standards, and occupational health and safety laws.
  • Ensure that all vehicle security modifications (e.g., sirens, light bars, surveillance cameras) are functional and compliant with legal standards.
  • Keep detailed logs of maintenance and repair work performed.
    Update digital or manual service records for each vehicle.
  • Prepare maintenance reports for the Fleet Manager and recommend when vehicles should be decommissioned or upgraded.
  • Identify and request necessary parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain an organized parts inventory and suggest procurement when supplies are low.
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers to obtain quality parts within budget constraints.

Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma/in Automotive Mechanical Engineering
  • Grade 12 Certificate/GCE
  • 3–5 years of experience as an auto mechanic, preferably working with fleets or commercial vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with both gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Experience with armored vehicles, security systems, or police fleet maintenance will be an added advantage

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergencies.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork.
