Consultancy for Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHD) Two (2) Consultants
The World Health Organization (WHO) Zambia Country Office seeks to hire two (2) experienced individuals to support Ministry of Health to achieve universal health coverage for nutrition specific interventions of the baby friendly hospital initiative in the health sector and accelerate implementation of the WHO SUNII component of Baby Friendly Health Initiative. The two should be able to complement each other's skills during the consultancy period.
Duration: Six (6) Months
Specific requirements:
1. To conduct an initial assessment on quality of care and utilization of BFHI in health care facilities for malnutrition in the 17 targeted districts
2. To conduct an analysis of the status of the implementation of the provisions of the code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes
3. To ensure that 50% of targeted health facilities in Lusaka are implementing BFHI practices
4. To work with the Service Quality Assurance team to ensure quality of service tools for BFHI and are integrated into the MoH SQA tools and orient national level.
Qualifications:
Essential: Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Clinical Medicine or other related field obtained from a recognized institution
Desirable: A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field, preferably in Nutrition, Public Health or Clinical Medicine.
Experience:
Essential:
Five years and more in planning, implementing, monitoring and supervision of nutrition activities at national level. Experience in BFHI implementation and able to review and document training materials and conduct training
Desirable:
Experience in working with bilateral or multilateral Organizations at country level. Proven competency in documentation of events and evaluation of programmes
Scope: The consultancy is aimed at scaling up universal health coverage for nutrition specific interventions of the baby friendly hospital initiative in the health sector.
Deliverables:
The following are the expected outputs to be provided in hard copy and electronic format:
1. Inception report stipulating how the consultancy will be undertaken including the expected outputs
2. An initial assessment on quality of care and utilization of BFHI in health care facilities for malnutrition in the 17 targeted districts
3. An analysis of the status of the implementation of the provisions of the code of marketing of breastmilk substitutes
4. Ensure that 50% of targeted health facilities in Lusaka are implementing BFHI practices
5. Report on Service Quality Assurance tools for BFHI are integrated into the MoH SQA tools and orient national level
Functional Skills and Knowledge
Expert knowledge in Nutrition programmes, basic epidemiological skills, analysis and interpretation of data. Publications in peer reviewed journals will be an added advantage. Demonstrated sensitivity, interest, tact and courtesy in relation to gender equality, women's rights; development principles and projects with implementing partners; and national and international personnel of varied nationalities and backgrounds.
