Company Overview:
Maamba Energy Limited (MEL) is jointly owned by Nava Global Pte. Limited and ZCCM-IH plc. The Company owns and operates a large-scale coal mine and has also constructed and operates a 300 Mega Watt Coal fired Power Plant to cater for the growing demand for power in Zambia.
Maamba Energy Limited is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic professional who wants to build a career in a large and professionally managed company located at Maamba, Sinazongwe District, and Southern Province.
Purpose of the Role:
To ensure the effective design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of control systems and instrumentation across mining operations, supporting safe, efficient, and reliable production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & Implementation
- Design and develop control systems for mining equipment and processing plants.
- Specify instrumentation and control hardware/software for new projects and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of control and instrumentation systems.
- Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Support the automation of mining processes to improve efficiency.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning Instrumentation equipment with minimal impact on production.
Project Management
- Participate in planning and execution of instrumentation-related projects.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery.
- Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and reports.
System Integration & Optimization
- Integrate PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and other control systems with mining operations.
- Optimize control loops and instrumentation for energy efficiency and performance.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements.
Team Supervision
- Provide technical guidance and training to team members.
- Issuance work permits during maintenance works.
- Ensure compliance with mining regulations and maintain accurate logbooks.
Reporting
- Prepare technical reports on statutory tests and safety settings.
- Contribute to weekly departmental progress reports.
Stock Control
- Maintain stock levels for Control and Instrumentation equipment and spares.
- Create new stock items in line with company procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation from a recognized university.
- Registered member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineering Registration Board (ERB).
- Valid light vehicle driver’s license.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley), SCADA systems, and industrial networking.
- Knowledge of communication systems (Fiber, Profibus Ethernet)
- Familiarity with Variable Speed Drives, DOL starters, and AutoCAD.
- Experience with SAP is an added advantage.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and safety-conscious mindset.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and in remote environments.
- Project management and documentation skills.
