Purpose

The Planning Coordinator leads a team responsible for the creation, implementation, and delivery of the maintenance management and planning processes for physical assets on the S2 Process Plant. Areas of responsibility: Backend/HPL, FLOTS & GCs, Electrical/Instrumentation, Civil & Shutdowns.

The role also has an ongoing responsibility for developing and improving work management procedures and maintenance performance indicators. The planning team have a core role in the creation of budget forecasts and asset management plans to ensure maximum business value is created from the S2 asset. 

The planning coordinator is accountable for the professional development of the planning team and contributing to the development and standardisation of First Quantum planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

  • Lead the team to plan and schedule maintenance services for internal and external activities – both for day-to-day activities and shutdowns
  • Lead and manage the shutdown planning process for the S2 Plant (within areas of responsibility), including the coordination of contractors, resource allocation, budget management, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures
  • Ensure the ongoing implementation of work management procedures and champion good asset management practices within the S2 team
  • Deliver the weekly, monthly and yearly Planning Performance KPIs.
  • Working closely with execution teams, accountable for the development of detailed scopes of work for all planned tasks included but not limited to the material, labour, access requirements, and duration. Conversion of these into PMs and BOMs in the CMMS.
  • Ensure required materials are ordered for planned jobs while supporting optimisation of inventory levels
  • Review job risks and lead actions to eliminate/mitigate potential interactions with other jobs and activities at other FQM Zambia sites
  • Enable increased productivity through applying good planning and scheduling practices
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the Planners and Schedulers to develop their knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure open communication is developed and maintained with Managers and Superintendents (Planning, Engineering, Process and Commercial) to ensure successful planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Effectively communicate plans (long-term and specific shutdown), requirements, schedules, changes, and progress of all the Process Plant Shutdowns to all stakeholders.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, and development to retain and develop the best talent for the organization.
  • Support the development of five-year cost forecasts for maintenance activities as part of the annual budgeting cycle
  • Ensure asset management plan and tactics are executed in line with their requirements, with a process in place to rapidly and continually update plans and task sheets based on maintainer feedback.
  • Participate in the development of asset management strategies for the plant
  • Coordinate with the reliability and execution teams to ensure that plant master data is maintained, and the CMMS is configured to support optimised planning and budgeting
  • Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees.
  • Follow the rotable management process, ensuring compliance with procedures and timely execution of repairs, inspections, QA/QC, and reconditioning activities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or related field is highly regarded
  • Formal Asset Management Qualification. (Desirable)

Management Competencies:

  • Excellent leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand equipment requirements
  • Understand copper production process flow (impacts of delays, quality or other issues that might cause delays) and implement maintenance plans to maximise plant output.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance process improvement and strategies control.
  • Sound knowledge of Supervision, asset care, optimization, and hazard control.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide clear and accurate operational directions to the team.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

Computer Skills:

  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems essential.
  • ERP (Pronto, JDE. SAP)
  • MS Project

  • 10 years of experience in industrial maintenance and operations.
  • Significant experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant highly desirable
  • 5 years of experience in maintenance planning for large assets including in a leadership role
  • 3 years of experience in shutdown management or equivalent project management experience
