Overall Objectives:
To lead and manage the credit department, ensuring sound credit practices, regulatory compliance, and the development of a strong credit culture. The role is critical in maintaining portfolio quality, managing credit risk, and supporting business growth, particularly in the SME segment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the appraisal of credit requests, ensuring alignment with lending guidelines and thorough risk assessment.
- Review and approve credit proposals, maintaining a prudent balance between risk and return.
- Ensure all lending activities comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and supervise a team of credit approvers and analysts, ensuring timely and high-quality credit decisions.
- Evaluate SME credit applications and provide constructive feedback in line with policy and approval matrices.
- Review assessments conducted by SME Credit Analysts and ensure consistency in evaluation standards.
- Coordinate credit operations to ensure deliverables are met within stipulated timelines.
- Develop, implement, and monitor credit programs; provide training and coaching to enhance team capabilities.
- Strengthen the Credit Reporting & Monitoring framework to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure proper documentation and legal safeguards in credit processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of credit reports
Qualifications & Experience:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with credits in English and Mathematics.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., ZICA, ACCA) are an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in credit risk management, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Experience in a Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) or Microfinance environment is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, policies, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in financial analysis tools and lending software.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
