JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
This position exists to transport CRS staff and partners/clients to and from relevant destinations in a safe and comfortable manner. The position will also carry out messenger services and will deliver mail and other goods to specified recipients.

Nature and Scope
The Driver will transport staff and visitors in a safe manner to respective destinations. This position needs a high degree of alertness and may require the Driver to spend a lot of time on the road when transporting of staff and visitors to the various field sites. He/she must have a general understanding of Zambia and must be able to brief visitors on the country. When out in the field, the Driver will work with the senior project officer on the activities for the day. The Driver must adhere to internal policies and procedures in the execution of their duties as well as the Zambia Road Traffic Act. The Driver must be in good health to perform the job effectively and is required to take annual eye testing to ensure that there is no vision impairment that can jeopardize safety. The position liaises with all internal staff as well as external clients when conducting messenger duties. In order to perform in this position the Driver is required to have a Grade 12 certificate, a class C driver’s license or better, a defensive driving certificate and 3-5 years relevant experience

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ferrying of Employees/clients
The Driver shall transport staff/clients as directed by the senior project officer. The Driver will ensure that all passengers are wearing seatbelts and will assist with seat adjustments when necessary. The Driver will load luggage in a logical manner that allows easy retrieval and maximum usage of luggage space. The Driver shall transport passengers at a comfortable speed which is in line with the applicable road limits and a maximum of 120km/hr. as per CRS policy and will also ensure that he/she travels within the stipulated time of between 06:00hrs in the morning and ensuring that the vehicle is parked by 18:00hrs in the evening. He/she will ensure that the passengers are in good health; when travelling long distances the Driver will stop to allow passengers to stretch and take a break to avoid joint pain etc. When transporting non-CRS employees who are Partners, the Driver will ensure that the passenger signs 2 copies of the waiver document, one will be submitted to the Fleet Manager and the other will remain with the passenger. The driver will conduct daily checks of the vehicles using the vehicle checklists to ensure that all required equipment is available in the vehicle. The driver will verify the presence at all times in the car of the vehicle log book, discharge of responsibility forms, trip leaders checklist, constant companion, the tools and spare parts as mentioned as per vehicle checklist and signed for by him/her in the log book, a complete first aid kit and spare tyre(s) in good condition.

Mail Delivery
The Driver shall deliver mail and other goods to external clients. He/she will request addresses and details of clients for mail drop off purposes. The Driver will ensure that deliveries are signed for as proof of receipt.

Vehicle Management and Maintenance
The Driver will ensure that vehicles are clean and in good working condition at the beginning of the day. He/she shall notify the senior project officer and the Fleet Manager when the vehicle is due for service (after 5000kms) and he/she will advise them of any other vehicle malfunctions. Once vehicle service has been approved, the Driver will take the vehicle for service and will also be responsible for vehicle collection. On a daily basis, the Driver must complete the vehicle log sheet and record his/her starting mileage, arrival mileage (at destination) as well as mileage upon return to the CRS premises. He/she will ensure that the passenger signs the log sheet as confirmation. The Driver will also complete the Security book when leaving the premises. The Driver will ensure that the vehicle has a medical aid box at all times for passenger safety. In the event that the Driver receives a ticket for breaking road rules, the ticket will be paid for by the Driver. In the event of an accident, the Driver will notify the senior project officer and Fleet Manager and proceed to the Police Station to get a police report. If anyone is injured the Driver must take the individual for medical attention first before proceeding to the Police Station. On a daily basis collect completed log sheets data for the vehicle so that data can be entered into VMS. When not in the field the driver will enter log sheet data, fuel expenses and maintenance expenses in the VMS database.
