The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading the financial management and strategy of GEI Power Limited, ensuring effective financial planning, reporting, compliance and the long-term sustainability of the business. This role will support GEI’s mission of delivering clean energy solutions (Solar Power, Solar Home Systems, Clean Cooking Solutions and Methanol Fuel Pods) by providing strong financial oversight, securing funding, managing financial risks, and driving operational efficiency.

You will be responsible for overseeing financial analysis and reporting, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and contributing to strategic decision-making. The Finance Manager should possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of financial management principles and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement GEI’s financial strategy aligned with the company’s growth in renewable energy and clean cooking solutions.
  • Prepare financial models, forecasts, and business plans to support investment decisions and project financing (e.g., 60 MWac Cooma Solar PV project, Solar Home Systems, and Clean Cooking Solutions).
  • Lead financial due diligence and provide inputs for fundraising from banks, investors, and development partners.

2. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage company accounts, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS and Zambian regulations.
  • Develop departmental budgets, monitor expenditure, and provide variance analysis to management.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, board, investors, and regulators.
  • Ensure effective cash flow management to support ongoing operations and projects.

3. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Zambian tax laws, ERB regulations, financial reporting standards, and donor requirements.
  • Oversee audits and act as the primary contact with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Implement strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.

4. Project & Investment Finance

  • Structure project financing and negotiate with banks, equity partners, and grant funders (e.g., Prospero, USAID A2C Project).
  • Monitor project expenditure and manage financial reporting for donor-funded and investor-backed projects.
  • Support carbon credit financing opportunities and advise on financial feasibility of new ventures.

5. Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Lead and mentor the Finance & Administration team, ensuring continuous capacity building.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Project Development, Sales & Marketing, Operations) to align financial processes with business objectives.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making as part of the senior management team.

6. Budget Management

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to establish financial targets and objectives.
  • Track budget execution and provide regular updates to management.
  • Identify areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.

7. Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimize working capital.
  • Implement effective cash management strategies to support daily operations and strategic initiatives.

Key Requirements & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any other related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA ACA, ZICA (CA), or equivalent and Membership with ZICA
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent leadership, team management and communication abilities.
  • High integrity, ethical standards and commitment to transparency.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines under pressure.
