Role Overview:

The Food Technologist is responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and consistency of all products manufactured at Eastern Tropical Company Limited. This role involves developing and improving food products, managing quality control processes, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and regulatory standards. The Food Technologist works closely with the production and laboratory teams to optimize processes and maintain high product integrity.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Product Development and Improvement:

  • Research, develop, and improve recipes and formulations for new and existing fruit and vegetable products.
  • Conduct trials and tests to ensure product consistency, quality, and shelf life.
  • Work to improve product taste, texture, and nutritional value.

Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC):

  • Develop and implement a robust quality control program to monitor raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and tests to ensure products meet established standards.
  • Investigate and resolve product quality issues and customer complaints.
    Maintain accurate records of all quality control tests and data.

Food Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all production processes and products comply with national food safety regulations and international standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000,ZABS).
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other safety protocols.
  • Prepare for and participate in external audits and regulatory inspections.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Work closely with the Production and Laboratory teams to ensure seamless quality management.
  • Train factory staff on food safety procedures, hygiene standards, and quality control protocols.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
  • Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field
  • Membership with a recognized professional regulatory body
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in food processing, quality assurance, or laboratory work.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and quality management systems.

  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of business operations, governance, and industry processes.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong numerical and financial acumen.
  • Ability to translate information into actionable strategies and initiatives.
  • Capacity to adapt to legislative and policy changes affecting the industry.
