Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Geotechnical Supervisor – (Fixed Term Contract) to join the Mineral Resources Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Geotechnical Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the geotechnical field and laboratory testing and the maintenance of slope monitoring systems. Manage the training and performance appraisals for geotechnical technicians.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Manage the pool of geotechnical technicians.
- Ensure the Geotechnical Technicians are working in compliance to relevant procedures and Zambian regulatory requirements,
- Provide adequate training to all geotechnical technicians to enable them to fulfil their roles and responsibilities, and develop into a more senior position,
- Manage the geotechnical laboratory ensuring all tasks involving geotechnical testing have an appropriate standard operating procedure that complies with an internationally recognised standard (British Standard or similar).
- Maintain field and laboratory testing equipment and ensure they are calibrated as per requirements
- Ensure that all works carried out comply with procedural, safety, quality and design requirements.
- Management of geotechnical data collection as directed by the geotechnical coordinator including but not limited to tension crack measurements piezometer data downloads, field and laboratory testing for civil works.
- Sample collection and submission to external laboratories
- Carry out blast vibration and Nosie monitoring, maintain the data base and communicate the results and ensure out of compliance results are escalated to the Geotechnical Coordinator and or Superintendent
- Ensure both the Radar and the Prism monitoring instruments are kept clean and inspected regularly.
- Work with the survey team to maximise the availability of the prism monitoring system
- Be responsible for the regular maintenance, refueling and movements of the radars in case of blasting or when requested by the Geotechnical Coordinator.
- Support the Engineering team with carrying out geotechnical inspections as and when requested by the geotechnical coordinator.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
- Diploma (or equivalent) in Mining Engineering, Geology or Rock Mechanics
- Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
- Member of The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
- Experience (5 years) in the Mining industry
- Experience in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment ie drill rigs and blasting experience essential.
- Experience in managing costs and budgeting
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to the local Zambian mine operations personnel
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Leadership and team management skills
