We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity and are seeking a suitably qualified individual to join the LICS community as a Head of Department, Languages, effective 1st August 2026.
Requirements and Qualities:
- English and English Literature teaching experience
- Be current with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) - KS3, IGCSE, and A-Level curriculum.
- Previous Middle Leadership (minimum 2 years) is essential
- Demonstrate sound leadership knowledge, skills, values, and effective professional practice.
- Lead teaching and learning, drives innovation, and supports continuous school improvement.
- Build positive professional relationships and actively engage with the wider community.
- Dynamic, driven, team-oriented, committed to educational excellence, and brings a positive sense of humour.
Qualifications:
- Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 5 years of relevant teaching experience.
- English and English Literature teaching qualifications
- Additional qualifications relevant to the role.
Key Responsibilities:
3.1 Teaching and Learning
- Set and maintain high standards of teaching and learning across all ages and abilities.
- Lead curriculum development and review schemes of work aligned to KS3–5 and school strategy.
- Improve teaching quality through self-evaluation, appraisal, and targeted professional development.
- Ensure effective resourcing, learning environments, behaviour consistency, and cover arrangements.
- Promote literacy, numeracy, and up-to-date subject and pedagogical practice across the department.
3.2 Recording, Reporting, and Assessment
- Lead and manage assessment systems to track student progress and achievement.
- Use assessment data to inform planning, raise attainment, and meet school targets.
- Ensure continuity and progression across year groups and key stages through effective planning.
- Work closely with Key Stage leaders to support student development.
- Ensure high-quality, timely reporting and completion of departmental evaluations.
3.3 Leadership
- Build positive, professional relationships and lead, support, and motivate departmental staff.
- Manage curriculum delivery and deploy staff and resources effectively to maximise impact.
- Develop, implement, and monitor the Department Improvement Plan aligned with school priorities.
- Track progress against targets and report regularly to the Principal and Senior Leadership Team.
- Contribute to whole-school strategy, policy development, and Teaching and Learning initiatives.
3.4 Standards and Quality Assurance
- Ensure departmental quality assurance aligns with school evaluation and improvement frameworks.
- Develop and review the department’s strategic development plan collaboratively.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety requirements within the department.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, team meetings, and school events.
- Engage with parents and the wider school community through formal school activities.
