The Hostel Manager will be responsible for the overall administration and smooth operation of the student hostel, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, discipline, and student well-being. The role also includes financial oversight and the implementation of strategies to maximize hostel revenue generation through optimal occupancy, efficient resource management, and value-added services.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

a)    Manage the day-to-day operations of the student hostel to ensure a clean, secure, and conducive environment.

b)    Supervise the hostel staff, including cleaners, security personnel, and maintenance workers.

c)    Enforce hostel rules and regulations, manage check-in/check-out processes and maintain updated occupancy records.

d)    Coordinate with the maintenance team for prompt resolution of repair and utility issues.

e)    Conduct regular inspections of rooms, common areas, and amenities.

f)     Monitor hostel budgets, expenditures, and fee collections.

g)    Ensure accurate financial records are kept and submission of regular reports to management.

h)    Manage inventory of furniture, beddings, appliances, and supplies in order to ensure accountability and cost control.

i)     Maximize hostel revenue by maintaining full or optimal occupancy throughout the academic year.

j)     Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.

k)    Explore opportunities for additional income generation from the hostels, such as short-term bookings during vacation periods or offering paid services.

l)     Promote a positive and respectful living environment; mediate conflicts and liaise with Student Affairs or the Dean of Students as needed.

m)  Organize wellness programs and training for students in liaison with the Dean of student as may be required.

n)    Prepare monthly reports on hostel performance, maintenance issues, disciplinary actions, and revenue targets.

o)    Maintain confidential records of student residents, staff attendance, and incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

p)    A Grade full 12 School Certificate with credits in English and Mathematics

q)    A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or Hotel Management or a related field.

r)     A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in hostel management

s)     Proven experience of successfully managing a business will be an added advantage.

t)     Working knowledge of basic financial management and revenue planning.

u)    Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

v)    Experience in student engagement and basic counselling at University level.

w)  Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic administrative toolsa
