Organizational Overview
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the full rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. The organization currently manages 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries, covering more than 20 million hectares. These countries include Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
In line with our commitment to operational excellence and human capital development, African Parks Zambia is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Human Resource Assistant at Kafue National Park.
Position Summary
The Human Resource Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resource function. This role is essential to the effective implementation of HR policies, systems, and procedures. The incumbent will support key processes including recruitment, staff records management, training coordination, and compliance with Zambian labour legislation.
Job Requirements
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of human resource structures, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Human Resource Manager.
- Assist in managing recruitment processes, staff onboarding, contracts, performance appraisals, training programs, payroll preparation, and staff separation procedures.
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and provide timely reports to support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with internal HR policies and relevant labour laws and regulations.
- Facilitate effective internal communication and contribute to staff development initiatives.
- Assist in the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns under legal requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Must be a registered member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management (ZIHRM).
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in human resources management or administration, preferably at a senior administrative level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Zambian labour legislation and best HR practices.
Key Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships at all levels.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Good organizational, counselling, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
