JOB DETAILS:

Role/position title,

Intensive English Teacher Trainers

Descriptor: To deliver a two-week intensive teacher training proficiency course to A1 level lower-primary English teachers in Rwanda. To work alongside and mentor local teacher trainers in delivering the training.

About the project

The intensive English teacher training project is an addition to the wider Building Learning Foundations programme (BLF) which is funded by the UK AID and aims to improve the quality of teaching and leadership in all of Rwanda’s government primary schools. The programme is implemented by a consortium of organisations; Education Development Trust (lead), British Council and VSO and will benefit all Primary 1 – Primary 3 (P1-3) English and Maths teachers in all of Rwanda’s 2,494 primary schools. British Council is responsible for the BLF’s English component. In response to the results of the baseline APTIS test in January 2018, BLF is piloting an intensive English residential course to help boost the speaking skills of the P1-3 English teachers with the lowest levels of English (A0-A1 CEFR). The intensive face-to-face residential course for 200 teachers will take place during the December school holidays. The materials for this course will be designed specifically for the Rwanda context and will be based on the REB teacher English A1 syllabus. The course will be delivered in tandem with 10 British Council recruited teacher trainers and 10 local classroom assistants.

About the role

The residential training will take place in teacher training colleges in two districts in rural Rwanda and it is expected that there will be 6 hours of lessons per day. The training is both ambitious and demanding in terms of delivery and outcomes and will require flexibility and resourcefulness.
