Purpose
The Master Data / OnPlan specialist is a core role in Kansanshi’s ongoing transformation to a systems and data led maintenance operation. This position works across all aspects of fixed plant maintenance operations to create, audit and align master data within the CMMS (and other related systems) to enable high quality asset management and effective planning and budgeting. This role will also enable the implementation of digital work instructions utilizing OnPlan software and tablets and their integration with the CMMS system (Pronto). The specialist will coach and develop personnel within the planning and execution teams and will support standardization of data and processes across FQM.
Key Responsibilities
Master Data
- Create and manage master data within asset management systems (e.g., ERP, EAM, CMMS) to improve asset registration, work management, maintenance tracking, and performance reporting.
- Maintain high data integrity by implementing strong validation, data entry standards, and quality controls. Able to hold others (including more senior personnel) accountable to these standards
- Engage with stakeholders across maintenance, planning, procurement, finance, and operations to define and gather master data required for asset and work management processes
- Enable smooth integration of asset management systems with finance, HR, and procurement platforms for end-to-end process alignment. Develop tools to support budgeting and forecasting from the CMMS system
- Analyze asset performance and lifecycle data to support decisions such as replacement schedules, disposal plans, or cost optimization.
- Support the ongoing development, implementation and standardization of master data standards in FQM, collaborating with other sites and FQM group teams
Digital Work Execution (OnPlan)
- Working closely with the reliability, planning and execution teams support the implementation of OnPlan software to create digital work instructions and PMs that will be executed in the field on tablets
- Manage the master data integration between OnPlan and existing CMMS systems
- Establish and manage change control processes
- Create design standards for digital work instructions, conduct field tests and continue to expand the features of the OnPlan software
- Identify opportunities and run projects to utilise data collected from tablets to further enhance maintenance and planning performance
System Implementation and Testing ·
- Assist in selecting, building, or upgrading asset management platforms. ·
- Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT), identify and resolve system issues, and support deployment.
- Document system requirements, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Evaluate existing systems, workflows, and data structures for managing fixed plant assets
User Support and Training ·
- Deliver training to end-users on master data, CMMS and OnPlan system features, asset processes, and data entry protocols. ·
- Act as a bridge between technical development teams and operational users to ensure business needs are translated into system solutions.
- Champion master data within the planning and wider maintenance team and coach and develop skills
Compliance and Auditing ·
- Ensure master data complies with internal standards and external regulatory requirements. ·
- Support internal and external audits by generating accurate reports and explaining master data standards and processes
Qualifications
- A grade 12 school certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized institution.
- A valid Zambian vehicle driving permit. Registered as a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
- Formal Asset or Data Management Qualification.
Experience
- 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance and operations. Including in planning or maintenance data management roles
- Excellent knowledge of CMMS systems and master data standards (Pronto experience highly desirable)
- Experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant highly desirable
- Experience in reliability roles desirable
- Experience with deployment of tablet based work management solutions an advantage
- Strong understanding of asset management principles and systems
- Proficiency in system configuration, process mapping, and workflow optimization.
- Solid data analysis skills using Excel, Power BI, or equivalent tools.
- Experience in system testing, deployment, and documentation.
- Excellent communication and training abilities.
- Knowledge of compliance and audit standards in asset-heavy industries.

- Proficient in all MS Office packages.
- Must be highly skilled in a recognized CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), Pronto preferred
- Previous experience in a large open pit mining, milling and flotation operation would be well regarded.
- Must be familiar with safe working practices.

Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or related field is highly regarded Formal Asset Management Qualification. (Desirable) Management Competencies: Excellent leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand equipment requirements Understand copper production process flow (impacts of delays, quality or other issues that might cause delays) and implement maintenance plans to maximise plant output. Strong understanding of maintenance process improvement and strategies control. Sound knowledge of Supervision, asset care, optimization, and hazard control. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide clear and accurate operational directions to the team. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment Computer Skills: Computerized Maintenance Management Systems essential.
