JOB DETAILS:
Our client a leading Bank is looking for an Operational Risk Officer to join their team
Responsibilities
• Deliver value-adding risk assessments and advice to change projects and new products to ensure changes to the business risk profile are properly quantified and mitigated/managed within agreed risk appetite across the affiliate.
• Manage the new product approval process accordingly.
• Support Group OpRisk and Control to deliver value-added MI, specifically Key Risk Indicator trends, and analysis of the drivers of operational risks to help business and senior management to better understand and manage operational risks across the affiliate.
• Drive implementation of Group-wide program of regular monitoring and evaluation to assess appropriateness and effectiveness of the internal governance and other control arrangements.
• Lead, promote and support timely and complete reporting of operational risk events and control issues by the business.
• In partnership with business management and group OpRisk and Control, participate in post incident reviews to identify and analyze root causes and learning, and to ensure that any necessary remedial actions or control improvements are implemented to prevent future losses and events.
• Ensure responsibility for key risk scenario and operational risk and control rating processes.
• Advise and support the business in respect of other operational risk/control related matters e.g. audits, Rating agencies reviews, etc.
• Coordinate /Facilitate business unit risk and control self- assessments provide direct input in the RCSA process.
• Work with business units for risk identification and review controls designs.
• Validate Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) identified by the business units and track threshold compliance and trends.
• Review/Update Loss Event Database using the centralized platforms and systems.
• Monitor local regulatory environments for compliance.
• Coordinate identification and evaluation of key risks at the affiliate.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive Operational Risk Register for the affiliate .
• Support BCP Tests (minimum once a year) and provide results and follow ups to country management, Cluster and Group Operational Risk & Control functions,
• Track exceptions and escalate outstanding corrective action plans to country management, Cluster and Group OpRisk and Control
• Train and build awareness of Operational Risk Management and enforce standards and practices across the affiliate.
• Build and lead an effective Operational Risk and Control team that will drive successful implementation of the RCSA and other key ORM initiatives across the country.
• Drive development and implementation of effective Operational Risk initiatives towards strengthening of the control environment.
• Lead and support the Business to ensure consistency and effectiveness of the Continuous Monitoring Self-Assessment activities and reporting.
• Support efforts to ensure data integrity of the Bank’s General Ledger balances and Financial Statements.
Business Management:
• Develop and maintain relationships with key affiliate executives/senior Business Leaders across the business to drive ownership of the management and general awareness of operational risk and promote a proactive risk/control/reward approach to the management of operational risk and control.
• Attend Operational Risk Management forums and conferences to stay abreast of developments in the risk and control management world.
• Agree targets and take accountability for the overall achievement of Operational Risk and Control, Governance & Review and Review & Challenge performance objectives in terms of cost management, risk & control management and employee management (employee satisfaction, performance, issues, staffing, risk, compliance and governance requirements). Supervise branch reviews for quality assurance to ensure compliance with Operational Risk Management policies and procedures.
• Support BCP/DR Tests (minimum once a year) and ensure provision of related results and follow ups to country management and Group Operational Risk & Control function.
• Review/Update Loss Event Database using the centralized platforms and systems
• Support efforts to drive data integrity of the Bank’s General Ledger balances and Financial Statements and Reporting within the affiliate.
• Coordinate OpRisk inputs into affiliate Internal Control dashboards for Group and Country Exco and Board
• Lead efforts to ensure that Open items in the Control Log receive appropriate senior management attention and that issues remediation efforts are timely and adequate.
• Coordinate effective Operational Risk Management Governance forums (BURC & BRCC) are created and maintained to drive optimal Operational management. Ensure adequate follow up for corrective action implementation plans.
• Support country & cluster Operations &Technology in reviewing BCP document for compliance with Group standards and related approval guidelines.
• Engage business units to ensure BCP contents and appendices are factual and can be tested with recorded results.
• Monitor action plans from BCP results, consolidate BCP Risk indicators for management decision
• Act as key reference to the Affiliate on Operational Risk Management related considerations.
• Attend and fully participate in the GORM organized weekly OpRisk Managers calls and updates.
People Management:
• Review people risk metrics and thresholds for the different departments to gain an understanding of the areas for concern. Ensure that the Head of HR for the affiliate has plans in place to address highlighted issues.
• Identify the need and overall approach for learning and development for the departments and ensure that adequate governance and oversight mechanisms are in place to monitor execution.
• Review and sense check succession plans in place for mission critical roles, and that these are delivered against.
• Ensure team back-up and continuity during vacations/absences
• Train and support country teams (train/coach/guide for compliance with policies) on OpRisk Management to drive a culture of effective risk management and controls
MIS
• Coordinate OpRisk Management inputs into the affiliates dashboard and periodic reporting vide the IC portal in a timely manner.
• Validate Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) identified by the business units and track threshold compliance. Provide monthly KRI monitoring report to Group OpRisk and Control vide the accelerate system and the IC portal.
• Analyze control self-assessment responses and lead the identification and reporting of control lapses and effective corrective action plan implementation.
• Track ARR and Regulatory Examination corrective actions grid and report resolution

Key Skills
• Practical application and interpretation of risk, control and governance methods
• Working experience of banking products and processes
• Good communication and inter- personal skills
• Experience in dealing with financial services regulators and external auditors

Qualifications
• 2 – 3 years’ experience in a similar role preferably in a financial setup.
• Minimum First Degree in a relevant field (Accountancy, Finance, Business, Economics, Statistics, Banking or Auditing) or an equivalent professional qualification.
