Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The organisation is committed to strengthening its human resource systems to enhance staff productivity, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.
As part of this commitment, the organization seeks the services of a Performance Management Consultant to implement a comprehensive performance management framework that aligns with organizational objectives and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Review and refine existing HR policies, performance appraisal tools, and practices.
- Assess the effectiveness of the current performance management system.
- Conduct consultations with management, supervisors, and staff to identify gaps and expectations.
- Refine a performance management framework, including:
- Goal-setting processes and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and competencies framework.
- Mid-year and annual appraisal tools.
- Feedback and performance improvement mechanisms.
- Develop guidelines for performance-based rewards and recognition.
- Recommend strategies for handling underperformance.
- Train HR staff, managers, and supervisors on implementing the system.
- Ensure the performance management system is in line with the APN Human Resources SOP.
- Provide a final report with actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
- Masters in Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 10 years) in designing and implementing performance management systems.
- Strong understanding of HR best practices, employee engagement, and organizational development.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Previous experience working with NGOs, civil society organizations, or corporate institutions in a similar assignment will be an added advantage.
