This is not a typical accounting role in that as Project Cost Accountant, you will be the financial gatekeeper for one of the most complex and high-stakes projects in the business. PROJECT COST ACCOUNTANT – Fixed Term Contract

DURATION – 2 Years

SECTION – TWAZABUKA PROJECT (NAKAMBALA)

REPORTING LINE – MAJOR PROJECT FINANCE MANAGER

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and track project costs in real time using SAP, OCMS, and other advanced systems.
• Perform deep variance analysis and uncover what’s driving cost shifts.
• Prepare accurate cost forecasts and monthly reports for management and project teams.
• Manage budget shifts and maintain airtight documentation for adjustments.
• Identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions before they escalate.
• Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and engineering teams to enforce financial discipline.
• Support audits and ensure strict adherence to company financial policies.
• Develop and maintain cost control dashboards for executive visibility.
• Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess financial impact of project changes.
• Proactively identify cost risks and recommend mitigation strategies before they materialize.
• Recommend process improvements for cost tracking and reporting efficiency.
• Prepare cost analysis and financial impact assessments for contract changes.
• Provide data-driven insights to support cost optimization decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 Certificate (or Equivalent).
• Bachelor’s degree in accountancy / finance / project finance / equivalent. Added advantage ACCA, CIMA, CA Zambia.
• Must be a member of the Zambia Institute for Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
• Preferably 2 – 3 years’ experience in management / Project Environment.
• Experience in SAP system will be an added advantage.
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
