About the role:

Our client is looking for a Quantity Surveyor who would be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects, ensuring cost efficiency, accurate budgeting, and financial control. Your role as QS, is to work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and BOQs (Bills of Quantities).
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Advise on cost-saving measures without compromising quality.

2. Tendering & Procurement:

  • Prepare and evaluate tender documents, contracts, and subcontractor agreements.
  • Conduct comparative analysis of contractor and supplier bids.
  • Assist in procurement strategy, ensuring best value for money.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure favorable terms.

3. Contract Administration:

  • Administer contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Handle variations, claims, and change orders, assessing their financial impact.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors on contractual matters.
  • Ensure adherence to FIDIC, NEC, JCT, or other relevant contract forms.

4. Valuation & Payment Certification:

  • Prepare interim and final valuations for work completed.
  • Certify subcontractor payments and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Monitor project cash flow and financial reporting.

5. Risk Management & Cost Control:

  • Identify potential financial risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Track project expenditures against budget, providing regular cost reports.
  • Conduct cost audits and ensure financial accountability.

6. Dispute Resolution & Claims Management:

  • Assess and manage delay claims, extensions of time (EOT), and disputes.
  • Prepare and defend quantum meruit and loss & expense claims.
  • Work with legal teams (if necessary) on contractual disputes.

7. Final Account Settlement:

  • Prepare and agree on final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all financial obligations are settled before project closure.

8. Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of cost reports, contracts, and variations.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project financial status.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional membership ZIQS or anything better is advantageous.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience as a QS in construction (building, infrastructure, MEP, etc.).
  • Experience with BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and contract management.
  • Familiarity with construction software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Primavera,RIB Candy).

Key Competencies:

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction contracts (FIDIC, NEC, JCT).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Procore).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with site visits as required.
  • May involve travel to project locations.
  • Full-time role with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
  • Career Progression:
    Potential advancement to Senior QS → Commercial Manager → Director of Cost Management.

Compensation:

The incumbent will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
