Job Summary
Manage Conduct Risk, Localising and implementing compliance policies, delivering training programs, and conducting surveillance to ensure adherence to regulatory and policy requirements.
Reporting all compliance issues to the Head Regulatory Affairs and the Head of Compliance, Implementing and maintaining compliance risk management processes for policies in-country. Provide support to line management in-country to ensure the business complies with regulatory and policy requirements, as provided for in legislation, to mitigate exposure and risk, as well as any loss, monetary and reputational, by providing specialist support to management in identifying conduct risk, compiling risk management plans, integrated risk management, providing the appropriate advice and monitoring levels of compliance with policy requirements.
Job Description
Accountability: Conduct Risk Management - (60%)
Outputs:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate conduct risk across the organization.
- Localise and implement conduct risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure conduct risk is integrated into business decision-making
- Oversight of the banks conduct/reputation/ ethics risk from SLOD
- Reporting of conduct/reputation/ethics risk to in country governance committees including the Board/committees
- Oversee timely submission of relevant business unit regulatory reports
- Engagement with bank stakeholders to ensure conduct/reputation/ethics risk management across the bank
- Keep the Country Head of Compliance and other Senior Management and Executives informed on Conduct, Reputation and any other Policy matters (regulations and policy) which may pose financial or reputational risks.
- Be the conduct/reputation risk SME for the bank and ensure conduct risk (and sub-risk) inclusion in departmental RCSA
- Provide steer on conduct/reputation/ethics risk mitigations/considerations in the NAPA
- Ensure that all conduct/reputation/ethics risk breaches and incidences are logged and tracked to conclusion.
- To provide in country support and coordination with Retail/BB/CIB stakeholders on conduct risk matters
- To facilitate effective and constructive sharing of knowledge and experience of compliance issues across the business
- Oversight of monthly conduct risk assessments and escalations to requisite governance forums
- Oversight of the quarterly conduct/reputation/ethics risk reporting to country committees and group
- Any other conduct/reputation/ethics risk activities assigned by the Director Compliance and Legal
- Act as a role model and drive proactive application of Absa Values throughout the team including establishment of common goals and objectives

- Ensuring that all policies and standards are loaded on PCM timely and on an ongoing basis.
- Preparation of Policy MI

- Design and deliver training programs to ensure employees understand regulatory requirements and compliance policies.
- Develop training materials and programs to promote a culture of compliance.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure training needs are identified and addressed.
Accountability: Surveillance and Monitoring (10%)
Outputs:
- Conduct regular surveillance and monitoring to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and compliance policies.
- Incorporate the Use of Data Analytics in undertaking Surveillance and Monitoring of business compliance to policy and regulatory requirements
- Identify and report compliance breaches or potential breaches to senior management.
- Collaborate with internal audit to ensure effective risk-based auditing.
- Work closely with regulators and External Auditors during Examinations, Inspections and Audits
- Implement continuous monitoring Techniques using Data Analytics
Person Specific:
- Understanding of the nature and dynamics of the banking industry and the associated regulatory and policy requirements
- Ability to interpret laws and regulations
- Intellectual and analytical skills
- The flexibility to appreciate the commercial objectives of the business, coupled with an ability to challenge, independently and constructively, senior management, peers or other staff where appropriate, to insist upon adherence to the highest standards of business practice and to the requirements of relevant authorities.
