Purpose of the position

The Residential Intern Teacher will conduct educational and literacy assessments of the Children’s education in the residential village and teach them to read and write. You will ensure adherence to health and safety, and child protection policy.

Position Responsibilities

  • To teach and help children in all subjects and help them to read and write.
  • To assess the children’s educational and literacy, and behavioral needs.
  • To ensure children attend residential class and maintain a high standard of discipline in the class.
  • To create visual displays and to help create an attractive, stimulating and fun learning environment.
  • Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments.
  • Organize supplies and resources for teaching and presentations.
  • Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
  • Ensure your classroom is clean and orderly.
  • Prepare progress reports on how each child is performing.
  • Communicate any concerns regarding education to the Residential Coordinator.
  • Help with homework by providing a calm environment, setting times for studying, encouragement, guidance.
  • Facilitate inspiration and the hope centered on Christ to children under Kids Alive programing.
  • Ensure facilitation of Christ based trauma informed care for Children entrusted in your care.
  • Be able to proactively create safe spaces for learners and report any child protection incident.
  • Provide practical and visible spiritual leadershipand mentorship to the children.
  • Perform any other duty as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Strong Christian with unquestionable religious disposition.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • must be able to teach in English and Nyanja
  • Strong teaching skills and abilities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize projects, and carry them through to completion.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Positive attitude, showing concern for people and community.
  • High level of self-motivation.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 School Certificate
  • Diploma in Primary Education and registered/certified with the Teaching Council of Zambia
  • Ability to teach literacy to children and helping children with homework
  • Fluent in Bemba, Nyanja and English
  • Excellent Communication skills and reporting skills.
  • Result and goal oriented.
  • A committed Christian with a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a heart for serving orphans and vulnerable children.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the challenges of working in an international organization, respecting and understanding the diversity of our people and cultures
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures.
