Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring full environmental regulatory compliance by managing and continuously improving environmental management systems, monitoring performance, mitigating risks, and leading accurate reporting, audits, and staff capacity building in line with national requirements and best practice standards.

Responsibilities or duties

Your Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure organizational compliance with national environmental legislation, regulations, and permit conditions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) and compliance frameworks.
  • Effective implementation of the Environmental Data Management System in operational areas, including managing statutory data responsibilities and reporting requirements
  • Upkeep and maintenance of developed management and compliance systems.
  • Monitor, audit, and report on environmental performance, identifying risks and corrective actions.
  • Lead preparation and submission of statutory environmental reports to regulators and stakeholders.
  • Oversee environmental inspections, internal audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate environmental records, databases, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff on environmental compliance requirements.
  • Review projects and operational activities for environmental risks and compliance gaps.
  • Support continuous improvement of environmental systems and alignment with best practices and standards (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Analyze and synthesize reports from environmental monitoring data
  • Actively champion site safety policies and drive the implementation of new initiatives or change management directives issued by the General Manager and leadership team.
  • Promote a culture of safety by actively monitoring operations and rigorously enforcing personnel compliance with safe work practices and environmental standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to statutory and company requirements regarding the reporting and investigation of all incidents, ensuring all recommended corrective actions are effectively closed out.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Mine Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience auditor for any ISO standard and regulatory requirement
  • High level computer skills with the ability to use mapping software, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience in the use of excel and other Microsoft packages.
  • Valid Zambian Driver license.

Experience needed

  • Five (5) years direct experience in environmental management with a minimum of three (3) years in an industrial setting, including regulatory agency interactions.
  • A minimum of at least 5 years post qualification experience within the mining industry in the environmental sector.
  • Working experience with implementing an Environmental Management system.
  • Wide range of environmental data collection, management and statistical experience.
  • Working capability with environmental databases an added advantage
