Job description:
Overall Job Purpose
Organizing and co-coordinating all surveying activities and services, which include the preparation of Reports, Maps and Plans for the purpose of directing relevant mining operations in the Open Pits and Civil works in areas outside the Pit. Accountable for overall development, discipline and safety of surveyors and other ancillary staff to ensure a smooth running of the Survey Section.
Specific Job Responsibility
The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;
- Ensure the efficient provision of accurate and timely surveying fieldwork and office duties as assigned.
- carry out all monthly measurements processes in a safe and timely fashion
- Assist his superiors in the training of Mine Surveyors in all aspects relating to Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, operation and maintaining of all Mine Surveying standards on site.
- To ensure the provision of accurate and timely survey service to all sections of the Trident operation
- Establishment and monitoring of Primary and secondary controls within the Mining Lease, this includes setting up site calibration as well as documentation of the controls and closure accuracies and adjustments using Trimble Business Centre.
- Take part in writing and documentation on safe work procedures in all aspects of the mining survey operations.
- Ensure that survey pickups of daily ore-faces is done and circulated in a timely manner.
- Carry out Survey Data Analysis on survey data and Maintain the integrity of the Survey computer directories and records of all files in the survey database or computer
- Ensure that all Set out of Mine Design and Geological requirements, this includes preparation of set out plans for all designated personnel to utilise
- Ensure that Stockpiles/waste dump surveys are done on a regular basis to enable accurate estimates of volumes to be calculated at the end of each month for reconciliation and Ore stocks calculations.
- Ensure that Pit Surveys are done on a regular basis to enable accurate bench by bench volumes to be calculated at the end of each month for payment purposes to the Mining contractor (in the case of contract mining) and for use in grade control reconciliation and Mill throughput figure comparison. In addition blasted areas to be surveyed for blasted stocks and for any contractor payments.
- Monitoring of Wall instability in Pits dumps or Dams with accurate reporting on required basis to provide information for analysis for failure prediction.
- Daily interaction with Chief Mine Surveyor, Mining Pit operation personnel and Lead Mine Surveyors on and as required basis.
- Ensure the Maintenance of surveying equipment to required standards
- Actively participate in Training of Mine surveyors and new staff in the methods, techniques and procedures of Surveying and all affiliated Mining requirements.
- Any other tasks as may be delegated upon by the supervisor.
Job Specific Competencies
- Knowledge in large multi open pit operations utilising GPS equipment, scanners, Drones, Total stations, data recorders and associated Surveying software like Surpac, Isite Studio, Microstation, Pix4D and Pix4D Survey.
- Ability to interpret and implement mine plans and effectively achieves targets and goals
- Demonstrate good communication skills with the other Mining sections (Operations, Technical, Mine Geology and Mining Maintenance) personnel
Experience & Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years post qualification industrial experience in the mining and Surveying industry is a must.
- Be physically fit and be able to pass pre-employment and medical examinations.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills in English language.
- Ability to train subordinate personnel
- A Degree in Mine, Geodetic, Geomatics, Land or Engineering Surveying qualification from a recognized Institution.
- Able to drive and hold a current Zambian Drivers license.
