About The Job

The purpose of this role is to manage the implementation and delivery of large-scale operations or multiple projects, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, cost, time, and compliance requirements. The Senior Superintendent provides leadership across operational, technical, and commercial functions, acting as a critical link between management and site execution teams to ensure efficient and sustainable operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee project setup and transition into full operational execution in line with business strategy
  • Manage day-to-day site operations including planning, resource allocation, productivity, and performance
  • Ensure effective control of work orders, materials, stock, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across all activities
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control processes
  • Provide input into tendering, contract structuring, and operational planning
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure alignment with budget and contractual obligations
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, SHEQ standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain awareness of contract terms and applicable legislation impacting operations
  • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation measures
  • Coordinate with internal departments (HR, Safety, Quality, Finance, Plant, IT, Commercial) to ensure smooth operations
  • Maintain effective communication with management and site teams
  • Engage with clients and external stakeholders to ensure service delivery and relationship management
  • Manage operational targets, productivity, quality, and timelines
  • Ensure optimal use of labour, plant, and resources
  • Implement performance monitoring systems and take corrective action where necessary
  • Oversee logistics, stock control, and operational planning
  • Establish and maintain site management systems including reporting, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Conduct data analysis and trend monitoring to support decision-making
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to management
  • Ensure implementation of technical and quality standards across operations
  • Apply internal and client-specific technical requirements
  • Support continuous improvement in operational and technical performance

Requirements

Qualifications

  • BSc or BTech in Engineering (Mining, Metallurgy, Industrial, Civil, or equivalent)
  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Membership with Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and ERB (or eligibility)
  • Project Management or Management qualification (advantageous)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in process, production, or mechanical operations
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory/management role in mining or tailings operations
  • Proven experience managing site operations, labour, and plant resources
  • Experience in tailings, reclamation, or contracting environments preferred
  • Experience in project setup and operational execution at Superintendent level or above
