JOB DETAILS:
Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is a nationally registered NGO working with development projects within the field of education, health, agriculture and other poverty alleviation programmes. Projects are carried out in all the provinces of Zambia reaching over 1 million people. Key funding partners include the Government of Zambia, national and international development organisations (USAID, EU, Global Fund, WFP and more) as well as private sector organisations.
DAPP in Zambia is looking to engage an experienced Social Welfare Officer for Children’s Town, which also cares for, and rehabilitates children taken from the streets into becoming responsible citizens.
The position is tenable at Malambanyama, in Chibombo district.

Job Summary
The Welfare Officer is very important in the smooth running of the Children’s Town. In cooperation with the leadership, he/she will ensure that the welfare of children is at its best in conformity with the children’s human rights. The Officer will also provide counsel to the students, and ensure that the welfare of the students in terms of the wellbeing and education are taken care of. The Officer must have knowledge of core registration and government guidance for the safeguarding and protection of children. .

1. Main roles and responsibilities
• Promoting the mental and physical wellbeing of all pupils and ensuring that they are safe from harm.
• Responsible for improving and developing the social lives of pupils by providing psychosocial counselling to all pupils, especially those with special needs.
• Keeping clear and accurate records (written and electronic); keeping leadership informed about children’s needs and conditions. This includes being responsible for keeping records of children’s health and improvement in the rehabilitation program.
• Making and maintaining contact with families and children who have suffered illness and injury which lead to time away from school and following up any referrals to hospital.
• Ensuring that safeguarding procedures, in line with the Child Protection Policy, are followed and reporting concerns to the Project Leader promptly.
• In charge of organizing and facilitating workshops on child protection and psychosocial counselling to the school teachers/educators, parents and children.
• Liaising with professionals and outside agencies and spearheading activities supported by partners and working with the institution’s cooperating partner’s e.g. Ministry of Community Development.
• Be the link between Children’s Town and other institutions and partners on child protection issues
• Spearheading the School Social Department office and providing leadership to the school Matron and Patron in their day-to-day duties
• Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the boarding life development through the established school standards
• In charge of all School clubs and entertainment programs and activities.
• Accompanying individuals or groups of pupils on trips/visits or projects if needed under the direction of the Project Leader.
• Participating in Children’s Town management team meetings aimed at improving work and welfare of everyone in Children’s Town. This includes participating in Teachers Council Meetings.
• Be a member of Children’s Town Disciplinary Committee
• Provide and submit daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly progress reports in accordance with set guidelines.


2. Qualifications
• Diploma or related experience in the field of Social Work and Community Development
• Basic administration skills
• Good communication and facilitation skills
• Trained or knowledgeable on Child Protection issues
• At least two (02) years’ experience in a similar role and environment


3. Preferred qualities
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
• Ability and willingness to work extra hours
• Have integrity
• Passion for child welfare and development
