The TSF Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and operational integrity of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). This position involves managing and directing a team of technicians, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies. The TSF Maintenance Supervisor ensures that the TSF operates efficiently and meets operational goals while minimizing risks and maximizing the lifespan of the facility
Key Responsibilities
1. Supervise Maintenance Activities:
• Oversee routine and emergency maintenance of the TSF infrastructure, including dams, pipelines, pumps, and monitoring systems.
• Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure minimal downtime and uninterrupted operations.
• Ensure maintenance is carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer’s guidelines.
2. Team Management:
• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians and workers.
• Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills and knowledge.
• Ensure that work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standards.
3. Safety and Compliance:
• Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations in all maintenance activities.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, ensuring that all equipment and procedures are in compliance with industry standards.
• Manage safety meetings, hazard analyses, and accident investigations as necessary.
4. Performance Monitoring:
• Monitor the condition of the TSF and related equipment, identifying potential issues before they become major problems.
• Use predictive maintenance techniques and data-driven tools to optimize equipment reliability.
• Report on maintenance activities, performance metrics, and any issues that could impact operational efficiency.
5. Budget and Resource Management:
• Assist in the development and management of the TSF maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective practices.
• Order and manage materials, tools, and equipment necessary for maintenance tasks.
• Work closely with the procurement department to ensure timely availability of resources.
6. Coordination and Reporting:
• Communicate regularly with senior management and other departments (such as engineering, environmental, and operations) regarding maintenance status, issues, and improvements.
• Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, including work completed, issues encountered, and preventive maintenance schedules.
7. Environmental Stewardship:
• Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, including waste management and mitigation of any potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
• Participate in environmental monitoring and mitigation programs as part of regulatory compliance.
8. Continuous Improvement:
• Lead initiatives to improve the efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability of TSF operations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices.
Qualifications
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• Alternatively, a diploma with significant relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in TSF operations and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in tailings management, pump stations, and dam structures is a strong advantage.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of TSF operations, equipment, and best practices.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to TSF operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, operational management software and other relevant software’s.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Certifications:
• Affiliated to the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and Engineering Regulation Board (ERB)
• Professional certifications related to tailings management or environmental monitoring are an asset.
Work Environment
• Work in an outdoor TSF environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Adherence to strict safety standards and use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
• Requires physical fitness to work on-site and handle heavy tools or materials.
