The Simulator Trainer & Assessor is responsible for delivering high-impact training programs for surface mining equipment operators using simulator technology. This role ensures competency development through structured training paths, assessments, and compliance with FQM standards, legislative requirements, and awarding body certifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Training Delivery & Assessment

  • Conduct classroom, simulator-based, and field training for SME operators (dump trucks, water trucks, service trucks, etc.).
  • Perform theory and practical assessments aligned with competency guidelines.
  • Issue certifications upon successful completion of training programs.
  • Implement Planned Task Observations (PTOs) to evaluate trainee performance.

2. Curriculum Development & Compliance

  • Develop role-specific training paths and materials compliant with FQM standards and TEVETA requirements.
  • Adapt training content for e-learning platforms and blended learning approaches.
  • Ensure all programs meet mining safety legislation (e.g., Zambian Mining Regulations, SHEQ policies).

3. Training Coordination & Reporting

  • Schedule training sessions in INX system as per client requests.
  • Maintain physical/electronic training records and submit daily activity reports.
  • Conduct Training Needs Assessments (TNAs) to identify skill gaps.

4. Safety & Operational Excellence

  • Enforce safe operation protocols for simulators and SME equipment.
  • Promptly report safety/environmental incidents.
  • Mentor trainees on best practices in hazard awareness and equipment handling.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with operations teams to align training with production goals.
  • Stay updated on simulator technology advancements and mining regulations.

Required Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in SME operations (dump trucks, excavators, drills, etc.).
  • Proficiency in simulator-based training and assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of Zambian mining safety laws and TEVETA standards.
  • Ability to develop interactive training materials (MS Office, e-learning platforms).

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Adaptability to train diverse learners (new hires, upskilling operators).
  • Coaching mindset with patience for skill development.
  • Analytical approach to assess competencies objectively.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Diploma in Technical Teaching/Teaching Methodology (or equivalent).
  • Trainer Advantage Level 1 & 2 Certification (mandatory).
  • SME Operator Certification (e.g., dump trucks, water trucks).
  • Valid SADC Manual Driver’s License.
  • Preferred: TEVETA Registration + EIZ License.

Work Experience

  • 3+ years as an SME operator in mining (mandatory).
  • 2+ years as a trainer/assessor (simulator training preferred).

Advantageous

  • First Aid Certification.
  • Experience with INX or other LMS platforms.

Personal Attributes

  • Safety-focused with zero tolerance for shortcuts.
  • Proactive in identifying training gaps.
  • Cultural sensitivity to work in a multicultural environment.
