VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: TRAINING SPECIALIST - MATHEMATICS

Lumwana Mining Company is seeking to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Training Specialist -Mathematics to join the versatile Learning & Development team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Coordinator – Apprenticeship and Graduates, you will be responsible for delivering applied mathematics training that equips apprentices with the calculation skills needed for their trade, linking topics like arithmetic, fractions, ratios, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and measurement to real workshop and site tasks.

Your Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Develop an apprenticeship math’s scheme of work aligned to trade needs, apprenticeship levels, and learning outcomes.
  • Deliver practical, workplace-linked math’s (fractions/decimals, ratios, algebra, geometry/trig, measurement, unit conversions, estimation).
  • Create and administer tests, assignments, and practical problem tasks; maintain records of progress and competence.
  • Diagnose math’s gaps early and provide tutoring, catch-up sessions, and individualized support plans.
  • Coordinate with engineering science/technical drawing/workshop instructors to align math’s content to real job calculations and drawings.
  • Produce worksheets, problem sets, examples, and revision resources tailored to apprentices’ contexts.
  • Review results and feedback to improve teaching methods, content, and assessment tools.
  • Report on learner performance, attendance, and support actions to relevant stakeholders; recommend interventions where needed.
  • Create a supportive learning environment that builds confidence and participation, especially for apprentices with math’s anxiety.
  • Ensure delivery and assessment follow internal training procedures and any relevant CBET/TEVET requirement.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum Diploma in Mathematics from a recognized learning institution.
  • Minimum a Diploma in Teaching Methodology from a recognized learning institution.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ work experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
  • Intermediate ability to use a computer with sound experience in Microsoft suite.
  • Strong in numeracy and presentation skills.
