People’s Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia (PPHPZ) is a local non-governmental organization committed to tackling poverty and homelessness through community-led initiatives and strategic partnerships. In collaboration with the Zambia Homeless and Poor People’s Federation (ZHPPF), our work focuses on empowering grassroots communities to access decent housing, basic services, sustainable livelihoods, and equitable economic opportunities. PPHPZ operates across urban, peri-urban, and rural contexts, guided by principles of accountability, sustainability, and inclusive development.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Accountant / Business Accounts Manager to lead financial oversight and contribute to the growth and sustainability of our farming and public sanitation social enterprises. The successful candidate will manage accounting functions, support business planning and performance analysis, and collaborate with management on strategic marketing and commercial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and statutory reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
- Maintain robust financial controls and ensure compliance with Zambian statutory requirements (e.g., PAYE, NAPSA, NHIMA, ZRA)
- Develop and monitor budgets, cash flow forecasts, and cost control strategies
- Support business planning and marketing initiatives with financial insights and analysis
- Coordinate internal and external audits and liaise with auditors, regulators, and partners
- Provide timely financial advice to management for improved decision-making
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Professional certification (or part-qualification) such as ZICA Diploma in Accounting, or ACCA Associate) or CIMA Level 2
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the private sector, NGO/enterprise settings, or related businesses
- Demonstrable experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and business management
- Understanding of marketing principles and commercial operations
- Proficiency in accounting software and strong skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
