Job Summary
The Assistant Branch Manager supports the Branch Manager in the overall leadership, operation, and profitability of the branch. This role focuses on supervising staff, driving sales and customer service excellence, ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance, and managing the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Staff Management
- Supervise and oversee branch staff to achieve individual and team targets.
- Assist the Branch Manager with recruitment, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented work environment.
- Manage staff scheduling and daily assignments to ensure optimal branch coverage and efficiency.
Sales and Business Development
- Lead and motivate the team to meet or exceed sales targets for new business and renewals across all lines of insurance (e.g., Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, Life/Health).
- Actively engage in cross-selling and upselling efforts and maintain a personal portfolio of key clients.
- Assist in developing and implementing local marketing and sales strategies to increase market penetration and brand visibility.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, insurance carriers, and business partners.
Operations and Compliance
- Oversee the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the branch, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
- Ensure all broking activities are in strict compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations/laws.
- Review and approve complex or high-value new business applications, policy endorsements, and renewal documentation.
- Handle escalated client complaints or issues, providing a satisfactory resolution in line with company standards.
- Prepare and analyse branch performance reports, including sales, compliance, and financial metrics.
Financial Management
- Assist the Branch Manager with budgeting, expense control, and monitoring of branch profitability.
- Assist collection of premiums and other accounts receivable management as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Diploma in Insurance, Marketing or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the insurance industry, specifically within an insurance brokerage or related financial services firm will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
Professional Licensing: Current and valid licence from PIA or other licencing body related to field of study.
Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of various insurance products, underwriting principles, and the local regulatory framework governing insurance broking.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interactions, staff coaching, and report writing
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to upholding regulatory and ethical standards.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships and resolve complex service issues.
- Strong sales drive with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and industry-specific brokerage software/CRM systems.
Location: Kitwe or willing to move to Kitwe at own cost.
