Reports to: Audit Supervisor

Purpose of the Role

The accounts assistant is responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial statements for clients. They work closely with accountants and auditors to ensure that financial records are accurate and up-to-date.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

  •  Design, plan, and execute effective and efficient audit procedures tailored to the specific risks and complexities of each assignment.
  • Review and assess the work performed by audit associates and interns, ensuring compliance with audit programs and firm standards.
  • Technically analyze complex audit findings, propose conclusions based on evidence, and effectively resolve technical accounting and auditing issues.
  • Finalize audit work papers, ensuring they are comprehensive, well documented, and support the audit opinion.
  • Engage proactively with clients throughout the audit process—during planning, execution, and finalization—to discuss findings, clarify information, and manage expectations.
  • Address client comments and concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Manage and mentor junior audit staff (associates and interns) assigned to engagements.

Person Specifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or professional qualification ACCA/CIMA/CA Zambia
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in external audit within a professional services firm, demonstrating progressive responsibility
  • Must be a member of ZICA

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop junior staff.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of matters as required
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in business English, both written and verbally
  • Familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to provide Excellent service to both internal and external customers
